Essential lipid autacoids rewire mitochondrial energy efficiency in metabolic dysfunction‐associated fatty liver disease

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Increased liver content of DHA‐derived small lipid autacoids (i.e resolvin D1 and maresin 1) associates with enhanced mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid β‐oxidation and bioenergetic metabolic flux. These features provide hepatic protection from steatotic, pro‐inflammatory and fibrogenic insults.

Eicosapentaenoic Acid

open access: yesDefinitions, 2020
An essential, polyunsaturated, 20-carbon omega-3 fatty acid with anti-inflammatory and potential antineoplastic and chemopreventive activities. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) may activate caspase 3, resulting in apoptosis in susceptible tumor cell ...

Discovery of Eicosapentaenoic Acid Esters of Hydroxy Fatty Acids as Potent Nrf2 Activators

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2020
Branched fatty acid esters of hydroxy fatty acids (FAHFAs) are a recently discovered class of biologically active lipids with anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic properties.

Differential effects of eicosapentaenoic acid and oleic acid on lipid synthesis and secretion by HepG2 cells.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1991
The effects of eicosapentaenoic acid and oleic acid on lipid synthesis and secretion by HepG2 cells were examined to identify fatty acid specific changes in lipid metabolism that might indicate a basis for the hypolipidemic effect attributed to ...

A New E-Series Resolvin: RvE4 Stereochemistry and Function in Efferocytosis of Inflammation-Resolution

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2021
The resolution of the acute inflammatory response is governed by phagocytes actively clearing apoptotic cells and pathogens. Biosynthesis of the specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) is pivotal in the resolution of inflammation via their roles in ...

Diurnal rhythm of plasma EPA and DHA in healthy adults [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Knowledge of the diurnal variation in circulating omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) may be an important consideration for the development of dosing protocols designed to optimise tissue delivery of these fatty acids.

Effect of EPA and Vitamin C on Superoxide Dismutase, Glutathione Peroxidase, Total Antioxidant Capacity and Malondialdehyde in Type 2 Diabetic Patients

open access: yesOman Medical Journal, 2014
Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of eicosapentaenoic acid combined with vitamin C in comparison with the pure form of eicosapentaenoic acid on the serum concentration of malondialdehyde, erythrocyte activity of superoxide ...

Dietary N-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids decrease biliary cholesterol saturation in gallstone disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Because fatty acid composition of biliary phospholipids influences cholesterol secretion into bile, we investigated whether replacement of n-1 monounsaturated or n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in biliary ...

Effects of Eicosapentaenoic Acid during In Vitro Maturation of Porcine Oocytes: Hormone Synthesis and Embryonic Developmental Potential

open access: yesJournal of Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology, 2019
Among fatty acid families, the polyunsaturated fatty acids were demonstrated to be mediators in various reproductive processes as precursor of steroid hormone (via cholesterol) and prostaglandins (via arachidonic acid), and in the last decade, major ...

Role of EPA in Inflammation: Mechanisms, Effects, and Clinical Relevance

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2022
Many chronic inflammatory processes are linked with the continuous release of inflammatory mediators and the activation of harmful signal-transduction pathways that are able to facilitate disease progression.
