Two ellagitannins from Punica granatum heartwood

Phytochemistry, 2002
In the course of studies on polyphenol metabolism in Punica granatum heartwood two new ellagitannins, diellagic acid rhamnosyl (1-->4) glucopyranoside and 5-O-galloylpunicacortein D were isolated and characterized together with four known tannin metabolites, punicacortein D, punicalin, punicalagin and 2-O-galloylpunicalin.

Ellagitannins, ellagic acid and vascular health

Molecular Aspects of Medicine, 2010
Hydrolysable tannins are phenolic phytochemicals that show high antioxidant and free-radical scavenging activities. For this reason their potential effects preventing oxidative related diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, have been largely studied.

Pelargoniins, new ellagitannins from Pelargonium reniforme

Phytochemistry, 2000
The range of natural ellagitannins is extended by identification of five new metabolites with 1C4 glucose core, designated as pelargoniins A-D and isocorilagin, and the new phyllanthusiin E methyl ester. They are accompanied in the aerial parts of Pelargonium reniforme by two known structurally related metabolites, corilagin and phyllanthusiin C, two ...

Neuroprotective Effects of Ellagitannins: A Brief Review

Current Drug Targets, 2017
Neurodegenerative diseases are increasingly inevitable as the population gets older, with enormous socio-economic costs. The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that by 2040, neurodegenerative diseases will overtake cancer to become the second leading cause of death, after cardiovascular disease.Herein, this review outlines the neuroprotective

Ellagitannine als Topoisomerase‐II‐Hemmstoffe

Pharmazie in unserer Zeit, 2006

Antiviral ellagitannins from Spondias mombin

Phytochemistry, 1991
Two ellagitannins with antiviral properties were isolated from the leaves and stems of Spondias mombin by means of a bioguided assay. Geraniin, the main component, and galloylgeraniin, a new didehydroellagitannin, showed pronounced antiviral activity against Coxsackie and Herpes simplex viruses.

Ellagitannin Chemistry. The First Total Chemical Synthesis of an Ellagitannin Natural Product, Tellimagrandin I

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 1994
Tellimagrandin I was synthesized by two different biogenetically patterned routes. One route featured diastereoselective galloyl ester coupling between the O(4) and O(6) galloyl moieties in a glucose-derived substrate bearing additional protected galloyl groups on 0(2) and 0(3).

Multitargeted therapy of cancer by ellagitannins

Cancer Letters, 2008
Ellagitannins are bioactive polyphenols that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory bioactivities. Pomegranate juice has the highest concentration of ellagitannins of any commonly consumed juice and contains the unique ellagitannin, punicalagin. Punicalagin is the largest molecular weight polyphenol known. Ellagitannins are not absorbed intact into the
