Mycotoxin management in the cereal supply chain: Advanced detection, detoxification, and smart packaging strategies

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Mycotoxins remain a persistent threat to the safety and quality of cereal grains and other agricultural products, and their impact on human health continues to raise global concerns. In many situations, the practices traditionally used to control these toxins are no longer sufficiently effective. They can be costly, difficult to implement on a

A DUF3455 domain‐containing protein promotes Ustilaginoidea virens infection and functions as a plant immune elicitor

open access: yesNew Plant Protection, EarlyView.
The fungal effector UvDUF1 from Ustilaginoidea virens not only promotes infection but also acts as a plant immunity elicitor, inducing broad‐spectrum disease resistance in rice and Nicotiana benthamiana. These results reveal its potential as a novel target for sustainable crop protection strategies.

Towards the development of innovative multi-mycotoxin reference materials as promising metrological tool for emerging and regulated mycotoxin analyses

open access: yes, 2017
The interest in LC-MS/MS multi-mycotoxin methods unveiled an urgent need for multi-mycotoxin reference material. A multi-fusariotoxin, including deoxynivalenol (DON); zearalenone (ZEN); T-2 toxin (T-2); HT-2 toxin (HT-2); enniatin A, A1, B, and B1 (ENNs);

The continuing significance of chiral agrochemicals

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 1697-1716, April 2025.
In the time frame 2018–2023, around 43% of the 35 chiral agrochemicals introduced to the market (herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, acaricides, and nematicides) contain one or more stereogenic centers in the molecule, and almost 69% of them have been marketed as racemic mixtures of enantiomers or stereoisomers.

Monitoring Early-Life Mycotoxin Exposures via LC-MS/MS Breast Milk Analysis

open access: yes, 2018
Infants are particularly susceptible towards the toxic effects of food contaminants including mycotoxins. However, multi-mycotoxin exposure assessment in breast milk has received very limited attention so far, resulting in a poor understanding of co ...

Identification and Quantification of Enniatins and Beauvericin in Animal Feeds and Their Ingredients by LC-QTRAP/MS/MS

open access: yesMetabolites, 2019
Emerging fusariotoxins, mainly enniatins (ENNs) and beauvericin (BEA), are secondary toxic metabolites produced by Fusarium spp. and are widely distributed contaminants of cereals and by-products.

Construction of an O2‐responsive engineering bioreactor for enhanced indole‐3‐propionic acid production and deoxynivalenol detoxification

open access: yesResponsive Materials, EarlyView.
An oxygen‐responsive living bioreactor was engineered via interspecies protoplast fusion, converting oxygen from an inhibitory stress into a programmable signal for sustained indole‐3‐propionic acid (IPA) production. This genetically encoded bioreactor enables robust aerobic operation and therapeutic efficacy of deoxynivalenol detoxification in vivo ...

Overview on mycotoxin contamination in Iranian foods

open access: yes, 2022
Mycotoxins are fungal secondary metabolites produced by numerous fungal species (e.g., Aspergillus, Penicillium, Fusarium, and Alternaria species). The inevitable mycotoxin contamination in food and feed has been recognized as a serious global issue for ...
