Endophenotypes in a Dynamically Connected Brain [PDF]

open access: yesBehavior Genetics, 2010
We examined the longitudinal genetic architecture of three parameters of functional brain connectivity. One parameter described overall connectivity (synchronization likelihood, SL). The two others were derived from graph theory and described local (clustering coefficient, CC) and global (average path length, L) aspects of connectivity.

Neurocognitive phenomics: examining the genetic basis of cognitive abilities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Cognitive deficits are core to the disability associated with many psychiatric disorders. Both variation in cognition and psychiatric risk show substantial heritability, with overlapping genetic variants contributing to both.

Ocular convergence deficits in schizophrenia

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2012
Individuals with schizophrenia have been reported to exhibit a higher prevalence of convergence insufficiency (CI) than the normal adult population. The purpose of this study was to determine if individuals with schizophrenia exhibit clinical signs of CI

Deficits in Auditory and Visual Sensory Discrimination Reflect a Genetic Liability for Psychosis and Predict Disruptions in Global Cognitive Functioning

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2020
Sensory discrimination thresholds (i.e., the briefest stimulus that can be accurately perceived) can be measured using tablet-based auditory and visual sweep paradigms.

Can neurological soft signs and neurocognitive deficits serve as a combined endophenotype for Han Chinese with bipolar disorder?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Methods in Psychiatric Research, 2023
Background Bipolar disorder's (BD) potential endophenotypes include neurological soft signs (NSS) and neurocognitive disorders (ND). Few research, meanwhile, has coupled NSS and ND as combined endophenotypes of BD.

Characteristics of Multimodal Brain Connectomics in Patients With Schizophrenia and the Unaffected First-Degree Relatives

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2021
ObjectiveIncreasing pieces of evidence suggest that abnormal brain connectivity plays an important role in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. As an essential strategy in psychiatric neuroscience, the research of brain connectivity-based neuroimaging ...

Distinct patterns of outcome valuation and amygdala-prefrontal cortex synaptic remodeling in adolescence and adulthood. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Adolescent behavior is typified by increased risk-taking, reward- and novelty-seeking, as well as an augmented need for social and environmental stimulation.

Autistic Children With Speech Onset Delay Show Reversed Bias in Spectral Versus Temporal Auditory Processing

open access: yesAutism Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A recent “hierarchical” reinterpretation of the neurological basis of autism suggests that in autism with early language delay, perceptual processing may be favored over the integration of transmodal information. This model is largely based on neuroimaging findings relating to visual processing, but predicts a corresponding reorganization in ...

Impairment of executive functions and memory in unaffected siblings of patients with bipolar disorder

open access: yesPsychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, 2015
Objective: Neurocognitive impairments in bipolar patients as a possible endophenotype is a growing field of research. Impairments in executive functions and memory have been reported in relatives of patients with bipolar disorder, suggesting that they ...
