Weakening the nuclear envelope: Lamin B receptor in melanoma metastasis
LBR‐driven nuclear fragility supports melanoma invasion. A: Melanocyte presents low LBR (Lamin B Receptor) levels, maintaining nuclear integrity and lamina‐chromatin tethering. B: During malignant progression, upregulation of LBR clusters at the INM (Inner Nuclear Membrane) during confined migration causes local lamina weakening and cholesterol ...

Objectives. Endothelial cell injury is a critical pathological change during the development of atherosclerosis. Here, we explored the effect of omentin-1 on free fatty acid- (FFA-) induced endothelial cell injury. Methods.

A rapid and sensitive quantitative fluorometric assay was developed to measure the response of endothelial cells to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The response of an endothelial cell-derived cell line, EA-hy-926, or human umbilical vein endothelial cells to ...

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Heparinase selectively sheds heparan sulphate from the endothelial glycocalyx [PDF]
A healthy vascular endothelium is coated by the endothelial glycocalyx. Its main constituents are transmembrane syndecans and bound heparan sulphates. This structure maintains the physiological endothelial permeability barrier and prevents leukocyte and ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Senescence of vascular endothelial cells leads to endothelial dysfunction and exacerbates atherosclerosis. In this study, we presented evidence that exosomes derived from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hucMSC-Exos) could delay endothelial ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.
