Two new peptides, methionine-enkephalin (met-enkephalin) and leucine–enkephalin (leu-enkephalin), have been isolated from brain, identified and synthesised1. The interest in these compounds lies in their morphine-like activity which was recognised and tested by their action on isolated preparations from the peripheral nervous system.

The ontogeny of seizures induced by leucine‐enkephalin and β‐endorphin
Annals of Neurology, 1984AbstractRats ranging in postnatal age from 6 hours to 28 days were implanted with cortical and depth electrodes as well as an indwelling cannula in the lateral ventricle. We then administered varying amounts of the opiate peptides leucine‐enkephalin and β‐endorphin intracerebroventricularly with continous electroencephalographic monitoring.Leucine ...

Endogenous Signaling Complexity in Neuropeptides- Leucine- and Methionine-Enkephalin
Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology, 20061. In addition to his many fine contributions in furthering our understanding of the neurochemical action of ecosanoids, catchelomines, steroids, anandamines, cannabinoids, endorphins, and the many modifications made to these neural factors, twenty years ago Julius Axelrod published a noteworthy paper concerning the nature of neuropeptides and their ...

Seizures induced by carbachol, morphine, and leucine‐enkephalin: A comparison
Annals of Neurology, 1983AbstractThe electrical, behavioral, and pharmacological properties of seizures induced by morphine, leucine‐enkephalin, and the muscarinic cholinergic agonist carbachol were examined and compared. Low‐dose carbachol given intracerebroventricularly (ICV) produced seizures similar electrically to those produced by ICV morphine and leucineenkephalin ...
