Animal models of idiopathic membranous nephropathy: Recent advances and future perspectives
This review focuses on the evolution of idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) animal models from traditional approaches (Heymann nephritis, C‐BSA, APA) to antigen‐specific models (PLA2R, THSD7A), critically evaluating their advances and limitations in replicating human IMN pathology.

Boar taint and meat quality characteristics of entire male and castrated male pigs
Abstract. The aim of the present research was to study the chemical composition, technological traits and intensity of boar taint of meat in entire male (EM) and surgically castrated male (CM) pigs. The study included 46 male pigs, cross F1 (Landrace x Danube White), fattened to average live weight 90 kg.

In this study, we primarily simulated pathological myocardial remodeling induced by transverse aortic constriction surgery and found significant cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis, characterized by deteriorated cardiac function. Oxidative stress response is considered as a pivotal pathological process, which contributes to inflammation and apoptosis of ...

Slaughtering of entire male pigs seen from the slaughterhouse perspective
AbstractSeveral challenges need to be taken into account before a full transition to slaughtering entire male pigs. To optimize welfare, entire male pigs should spend as short a time as possible in the pick-up facilities at the farm. At the slaughterhouse, there is no need to control the ratio between genders in the pens, as this has only minor effects

Objective Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS). Elevated immunoglobulin G (IgG) titers against EBV nuclear antigen 1 (EBNA1) represent the most consistent serological marker of MS risk, with levels remaining persistently elevated following disease onset.

In today's production systems, pigs raised for slaughter are mixed many times, resulting in stress and fighting. The negative consequences of mixing are probably more severe with entire males than with castrates, as they fight more.

Abstract Dental microwear texture analysis (DMTA) is widely applied for inferring diet in vertebrates. Besides diet and ingesta properties, factors like wear stage and bite force may affect microwear formation, potentially leading to tooth position‐specific microwear patterns.

Ontogeny of murine bony semicircular canal form
Abstract The labyrinthine geometry and functional anatomy of the semicircular canals have intrigued scientists for decades, and there has been considerable interest in understanding how these complex structures grow and develop with evidence emerging from human studies that size maturation occurs exceptionally early by comparison with other systems ...

Early immunocastration of male pigs [PDF]
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of prepubertal or early pubertal vaccination against GnRH using Improvac® (Pfizer Ltd.) on boar taint, reproductive organs, anabolic hormones, cytochrome P450 enzymes, performance and behaviour ...
