Significance of assessment of sputum eosinophilia in bronchial asthma [PDF]

open access: yesPerspectives In Medical Research, 2018
Introduction: Eosinophilic airway inflammation is an important distinguishing characteristic feature of bronchial asthma in adults. To assess this type of airway inflammation, sputum eosinophilic counts are generally considered to be the gold ...

Myo‐Inositol Mitigates Oxidative Stress in Bovine Mammary Epithelial Cells via Activation of the SIRT5/Nrf2 Signaling Axis

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Myo‐inositol alleviates oxidative stress in dairy cow mammary epithelial cells via the Sirt5/Nrf2 pathway to promote mitochondrial fusion. This graphical abstract was created with BioRender.com. ABSTRACT High‐yielding dairy cows are susceptible to mammary gland oxidative stress due to prolonged intensive lactation, leading to redox imbalance.

Enhancement of OVA-induced murine lung eosinophilia by co-exposure to contamination levels of LPS in Asian sand dust and heated dust. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BackgroundA previous study has shown that the aggravation of Asian sand dust (ASD) on ovalbumin (OVA)-induced lung eosinphilia was more severe in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-rich ASD than in SiO2-rich ASD.

Interleukin‐5, Eosinophils, and Interleukin‐5 Pathway Inhibitors in Eosinophilic Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Interlukin‐5 (IL‐5) plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) by promoting eosinophil differentiation, activation, and survival. We present here a typical case of EGPA in which treatment with IL‐5 pathway inhibitors is prescribed, showing to be beneficial for the patient.

Self-assembling nanoparticles containing dexamethasone as a novel therapy in allergic airways inflammation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Nanocarriers can deliver a wide variety of drugs, target them to sites of interest, and protect them from degradation and inactivation by the body. They have the capacity to improve drug action and decrease undesirable systemic effects.

Cellular Mechanisms Underlying Eosinophilic and Neutrophilic Airway Inflammation in Asthma

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2015
Asthma is a phenotypically heterogeneous chronic disease of the airways, characterized by either predominant eosinophilic or neutrophilic, or even mixed eosinophilic/neutrophilic inflammatory patterns. Eosinophilic inflammation can be associated with the

Non-eosinophilic asthma: current perspectives

open access: yesJournal of Asthma and Allergy, 2018
Although non-eosinophilic asthma (NEA) is not the best known and most prevalent asthma phenotype, its importance cannot be underestimated. NEA is characterized by airway inflammation with the absence of eosinophils, subsequent to activation of non-predominant type 2 immunologic pathways.

Prediction of Relapse and Glucocorticoid Dependence in Eosinophilic Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis: Findings From a Large European Cohort

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) is a small vessel vasculitis characterized by eosinophilia, asthma, and ear, nose, and throat (ENT) involvement. Although glucocorticoids (GCs) are effective in controlling symptoms, relapses and GC dependence are common. The aim of this study was to develop predictive models for vasculitis

Interstitial Lung Disease in Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody–Associated Vasculitis: A European Multicenter Study

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Interstitial lung disease (ILD) can occur in association with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)–associated vasculitis (AAV‐ILD) or as an isolated entity with positive ANCA (ANCA‐ILD). However, data on the epidemiology and outcomes of these conditions remain limited.
