비만은 비정상적인 또는 과다한 지방의 축적에 따른 건 강의 위협상태로 정의된다. 이미 전 세계적으로 5번째로 많 은 사망요인으로 보고된 비만에 의해 매년 적어도 280만명 이상의 성인이 사망한다. 세계보건기구 (WHO)의 2008년도 보고서에 따르면, 전 세계적으로 약 15억의 성인이 과체중 을 보이며, 그 중 5억명이 비만인구로 분류된다. 이와 같은 비만은 특히 고지방, 고염류, 고탄수화물의 음식 섭취와 도 시화에 따른 운동부족에 따른 섭취한 열량과 소모한 열량의 불균형을 그 근본적 원인으로 판단할 수 있다. 비만은 또한 당뇨병의 44%, 심혈관 질환의 23%, 그리고 기타 비만관련 암질환의 7~40%의 발병원인으로 보고되고

Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.
