Tracing back variations in archaeal ESCRT-based cell division to protein domain architectures.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
The Endosomal Sorting Complex Required for Transport (ESCRT) system is a multi-protein machinery that is involved in cell division of both Eukaryotes and Archaea.

Isolation Defines Identity: Functional Consequences of Extracellular Vesicle Purification Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Four extracellular vesicle purification strategies are compared using ovarian‐cancer ascites and ES‐2 cell supernatants. A novel workflow links purification to function by combining particle‐normalized proteomics with matched cell‐free and cell‐based assays.

Structural and Functional Characterization of EXPO‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles in Plants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, 3D electron tomography (ET), cryo‐ET, and immunogold transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are employed to characterize plant extracellular vesicles (EVs) under physiological conditions. EVs are classified into three distinct categories according to their size, content, and molecular‐marker profiles. Furthermore, Exo70E2‐positive medium

Super-Resolution Microscopy: A Virus’ Eye View of the Cell [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
It is difficult to observe the molecular choreography between viruses and host cell components, as they exist on a spatial scale beyond the reach of conventional microscopy.

EGF receptor trafficking: consequences for signaling and cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The ligand-stimulated epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) has been extensively studied in the analysis of molecular mechanisms regulating endocytic traffic and the role of that traffic in signal transduction.

HRS Degradation‐Induced Nicotinamide Deficiency in Placental Extracellular Vesicles Triggers Preeclampsia by Disrupting Maternal‐Fetal Immune Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that lower NAM levels in PE‐derived pEVs correlate with disease severity. NAM‐deficient pEVs reduce Th1 and Th17 inhibition, leading to PE‐like symptoms. NAM in pEVs inhibits Th1 via SIRT1 and Th17 via macrophages. Reduced NAM in PE‐EVs is due to decreased HRS expression in trophoblasts, resulting from elevated HSP27.

Genome-wide screen reveals important roles for ESCRT proteins in drug/ion resistance of fission yeast. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
To study sodium homeostasis, we performed a genome-wide screen for deletion strains that show resistance to NaCl. We identified 34 NaCl-resistant strains.

Arabidopsis CaLB1 undergoes phase separation with the ESCRT protein ALIX and modulates autophagosome maturation

open access: yesNature Communications
Autophagy is relevant for diverse processes in eukaryotic cells, making its regulation of fundamental importance. The formation and maturation of autophagosomes require a complex choreography of numerous factors.

In vitro reconstitution of calcium-dependent recruitment of the human ESCRT machinery in lysosomal membrane repair

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2022
The endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) machinery has been shown to be centrally involved in repair of damage to both the plasma and lysosome membranes.

A novel minimal in vitro system for analyzing HIV-1 Gag mediated budding

open access: yes, 2014
A biomimetic minimalist model membrane was used to study the mechanism and kinetics of cell-free in vitro HIV-1 Gag budding from a giant unilamellar vesicle (GUV).
