Comprehensive ESD protection for RF inputs

Microelectronics Reliability, 2005
We demonstrate that narrow-band tuned circuits may be used for ESD protection of RF inputs, and a figure of merit for optimization of these circuits is presented. The performance of the ESD-protected RF circuit is dependent on the quality factor of the ESD device, and various protection devices are evaluated in this work.

ESD protection circuit with an improved ESD capability for input or output circuit protection

48th Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2005., 2005
An ESD protection circuit in chip level protection is proposed as the electrostatic discharge (ESD) clamping circuit such as thick field oxide (TFO), grounded gate MOS (GGNMOS) and separated stages for input or output protection. The ESD protection circuits for input pad and output pad were implemented from the proposed ESD protection circuit.

Broadband ESD protection circuits in CMOS technology

2003 IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference, 2003. Digest of Technical Papers. ISSCC., 2003
A broadband technique using monolithic T-coils is applied to electrostatic discharge (ESD) structures for both input and output pads. Fabricated in 0.18-/spl mu/m CMOS technology, the prototypes achieve operation at 10 Gb/s while providing a return loss of -20 dB at 10 GHz.

Interconnects for device ESD protection

Proceedings Electrical Overstress/Electrostatic Discharge Symposium, 2005
A conductive spring loaded shorting bar on the leads of a TO-220 MOSFET was found to protect it from ESD failures. The MOSFET is used in an implantable cardioverter defibrillator device where quality and reliability is essential. Pre-production samples revealed significant ESD failures, thought to be associated with a mechanical shearing operation ...

Novel devices in ESD protection

2007 International Workshop on Physics of Semiconductor Devices, 2007
ESD protection circuits are part of any electronic circuit to ensure robustness against electrical surges. The choice of the ESD protection concept strongly depends on the IO devices. The integration of devices like DeMOS for high voltage interfaces in system on chip applications and multigate FETs in advanced CMOS requires new process optimization ...

An Application of LDMOS on ESD Protection

2020 China Semiconductor Technology International Conference (CSTIC), 2020
This paper focuses on the application of a LDMOS ESD protection method. The application is by tuning the size of poly cover field oxide. It needn't extra process step. This way can reduce the breakdown voltage. When ESD is coming, this device can turn on first, then protect the core the Chip.

ESD Protection for Poly Fuses

2019 41st Annual EOS/ESD Symposium (EOS/ESD), 2019
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) can falsely program or erase the poly fuse cell even with a standard ESD protection device in parallel. In this study, special ESD protection circuits including phase change disabling circuits are successfully introduced. It is demonstrated that those can prevent the poly fuse from ESD damage by blocking ESD currents from ...

ESD protection for BiCMOS circuits

Proceedings of the 2000 BIPOLAR/BiCMOS Circuits and Technology Meeting (Cat. No.00CH37124), 2002
We introduce two new ESD protection elements suitable for use in BiCMOS process technology-a grounded gate NMOS built inside a junction-isolated p-well which acts as a lateral NPN, and a modified Zener-triggered vertical NPN circuit.

Advanced ESD Protection

2006
In this chapter, several important advanced ESD protection design concepts are discussed. Modem mixed-signal and RF ICs require wide-angle considerations in ESD protection circuit design. The ESD-circuit interaction becomes an inevitable and critical issue in chip-level ESD protection design.

Nonlinear capacitors for ESD protection

IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Magazine, 2012
In order to protect electronic products from Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) damage, multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) are often used to bypass the transient ESD energy. Most dielectric materials used in MLCC are nonlinear, since the dielectric constant decreases with increasing voltage, reducing the capacitance value, thus degrading the ESD ...
