Role of estrogen receptor beta in epithelia lacking estrogen receptor alpha expression

open access: yes, 2008
Estrogens influence the physiology of many organs by activation of the nuclear receptors ERalpha and ERbeta. The epithelium of ventral prostate, ovarian granulosa cells and lung, are ERalpha-negative but express high levels of ERbeta. This thesis focuses on the role played by ERbeta in ERalpha-negative epithelium.

Immunomodulatory and Cytotoxic Properties of Enniatin B1 in Porcine Alveolar Macrophages

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the immunomodulatory effects of Enniatin B1 (ENNB1), an emerging mycotoxin, on porcine alveolar macrophages (PAMs), a species‐specific model relevant to human innate immunity. PAMs were exposed to increasing ENNB1 concentrations (0.5–6 μM) over 6, 24, and 48 h.

Melanoma Cells Exposed to Clomiphene Citrate Respond With Cell Cycle Arrest and Reduced Invasiveness

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Epidemiological studies have suggested that clomiphene citrate (CC) exposure may increase the risk of malignant melanoma, but mechanisms are unknown. We investigated the effects of CC on melanoma cell line A375. Cells were treated with CC at 2, 20, 200, and 2000 ng/mL, followed by assessment of cell viability and metabolism, cell cycle ...

Mode‐of‐Action and Human Relevance Assessment for Diisononyl Phthalate‐Induced Liver Tumors in Rodents

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Diisononyl phthalate (DINP) is a high molecular weight phthalate and high production volume chemical. DINP's carcinogenic potential has been investigated in four rodent bioassays, with liver tumors observed in three of the studies. Authoritative assessments have hypothesized that DINP acts through the peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor

The TRPM2–PARP‐1 Axis Involvement in Bisphenol A and Nonylphenol‐Induced Ferroptosis in Trigeminal Ganglion Cells

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Environmental contaminants like bisphenol A (BPA) and nonylphenol (NP) are recognized neurotoxicants; however, the molecular mechanisms underlying their impact on sensory ganglia, specifically the trigeminal ganglion (TG), remain critically underexplored.

Toxic Effects of Bisphenol A and Its Analogs on Ovarian Structure and Function: A Narrative Review of Ovary‐Focused Studies

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Bisphenol A (BPA) is a widely used industrial chemical found in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins and is recognized for its endocrine‐disrupting properties. Human exposure is common due to its presence in food packaging and everyday products. As BPA use has been restricted, structurally similar compounds such as BPS, BPB, BPAF, and BADGE
