A Case Report on Disseminated Mycobacterium avium Complex Infection in an Otherwise Healthy Individual—A Diagnostic Challenge

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Disseminated Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection can mimic tuberculosis (TB) in immunocompetent individuals, leading to diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Clinicians should consider nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) in patients unresponsive to anti‐tubercular therapy (ATT), especially in endemic regions.

Why a Mycobacterium Avium Infected Patient Showed a Positive Xpert MTB/RIF Result?

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT This article discusses whether a MAC infected patient with a positive Xpert MTB/RIF test has a co‐infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). The patient presented with chronic, indolent pulmonary patchy shadows on imaging but lacked typical symptoms. The MTB antigen‐specific interferon‐gamma enzyme‐linked immunospot assay (T‐SPOT.TB) was

Ethambutol-induced optic neuropathy: Another conundrum

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ophthalmology and Research
Purpose: The purpose was to study the effect of ethambutol (EMB) and cause for optic neuropathy in the hope that better understanding of the condition will help us to reduce the burden of visual loss.

Frequency of mutational changes in the embB among the ethambutol-resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Iran

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries, 2016
Introduction: Early detection of drug resistant tuberculosis is one of the main priorities of TB control program. Ethambutol (EMB) is a first-line anti-TB drug that is effective for preventing treatment failures caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis ...

Role of therapeutic drug monitoring in pulmonary infections : use and potential for expanded use of dried blood spot samples [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Respiratory tract infections are among the most common infections in men. We reviewed literature to document their pharmacological treatments, and the extent to which therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is needed during treatment.

Activity Profiling of Nitro‐Substituted Di(Hetero)Aryl 1,3,4‐ and 1,2,4‐Oxadiazoles: Antimicrobial, Cholinesterase Inhibition and Antioxidant Potential

open access: yesArchiv der Pharmazie, Volume 359, Issue 1, January 2026.
Novel nitro‐substituted diaryl 1,3,4‐ and 1,2,4‐oxadiazoles were synthesised via molecular hybridisation of bioactive heterocycles. Selected derivatives exhibited potent antimicrobial activity, including against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Staphylococcus aureus, and cholinesterase inhibitory activity, with promising selectivity.

Analysis of Isoniazid, Streptomycin and Ethambutol resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates from Morocco

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries, 2009
Background: Drug-resistant tuberculosis is a major problem worldwide. Based on the knowledge of specific mutations occurring in Mycobacterium tuberculosis genome, drug resistance can be detected earlier.
