Ultrastructural Variability of the Exosporium Layer of Clostridium difficile Spores [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 2016
ABSTRACT The anaerobic sporeformer Clostridium difficile is the leading cause of nosocomial antibiotic-associated diarrhea in developed and developing countries. The metabolically dormant spore form is considered the transmission, infectious, and persistent morphotype, and the outermost exosporium layer is

Localization and Assembly of the Novel Exosporium Protein BetA of Bacillus anthracis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 2011
ABSTRACT The exosporium of Bacillus anthracis is comprised of two distinct layers: a basal layer and a hair-like nap that covers the basal layer. The hair-like nap contains the glycoproteins BclA and, most likely, BclB.

Visualization of fidaxomicin association with the exosporium layer of Clostridioides difficile spores [PDF]

open access: yesAnaerobe, 2021
Fidaxomicin has novel pharmacologic effects on C. difficile spore formation including outgrowth inhibition and persistent spore attachment. However, the mechanism of fidaxomicin attachment on spores has not undergone rigorous microscopic studies.Fidaxomicin attachment to C. difficile spores of three distinct ribotypes and C.

Spore Display Using Bacillus thuringiensis Exosporium Protein InhA

open access: yesJournal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2009
A new spore display method is presented that enables recombinant proteins to be displayed on the surface of Bacillus spores via fusion with InhA, an exosporium component of Bacillus thuringiensis. The green fluorescent protein and beta-galactosidase as model proteins were fused to the C-terminal region of InhA, respectively.

Corynespora, Exosporium and Helminthosporium revisited - New species and generic reclassification

open access: yesStudies in Mycology, 2017
Molecular phylogenetic analyses of a multigene matrix of partial nuSSU-ITS-LSU rDNA, rpb2 and tef1 sequences were performed to investigate the phylogenetic relationships of Corynespora, Exosporium and Helminthosporium species. Based on phylogenetic analyses and morphology, the genus Exosporium is synonymised with Helminthosporium, and the genus ...

The Clostridium difficile Exosporium Cysteine (CdeC)-Rich Protein Is Required for Exosporium Morphogenesis and Coat Assembly [PDF]

open access: yes
Clostridium difficile is an important nosocomial pathogen that has become a major cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. There is a general consensus that C. difficile spores play an important role in C.

Crystal structure and induced stability of trimeric BxpB: implications for the assembly of BxpB-BclA complexes in the exosporium of Bacillus anthracis

open access: yesmBio, 2023
The outermost exosporium layer of Bacillus anthracis spores, the causative agents of anthrax, is comprised of a basal layer and an external hair-like nap. The nap includes filaments composed of trimers of the collagen-like glycoprotein BclA.

The Structure of the Exosporium of a Pigmented Clostridium [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1978
Summary: Exosporia surrounding spores of a pigmented Clostridium showed a hexagonal periodicity when negatively stained and were composed of up to 10 lamellae, each 2.6 nm thick, with a centre-to-centre spacing of 5.2 nm. Optical diffraction spectra revealed that isolated fragments of single lamellae contained hexagonal arrays of subunits with a ...

The Clostridium difficile Exosporium Cysteine (CdeC)-Rich Protein Is Required for Exosporium Morphogenesis and Coat Assembly [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 2013
Clostridium difficile is an important nosocomial pathogen that has become a major cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. There is a general consensus that C. difficile spores play an important role in C. difficile pathogenesis, contributing to infection, persistence, and transmission. Evidence has demonstrated that C.
