Sialoadhesin Promotes the Inflammatory Response in Experimental Autoimmune Uveoretinitis [PDF]
Abstract Macrophages are a prominent component of the effector cell compartment in a number of CD4+ T cell-mediated organ-specific autoimmune diseases. In this study, we investigated the role of the sialic acid binding Ig-like lectin sialoadhesin (Sn, Siglec-1) in a model of interphotoreceptor retinal binding protein peptide-induced ...

ABSTRACT Extramedullary haematopoiesis (EMH) refers to blood generation outside of the bone marrow (BM). In Myelofibrosis (MF), a myeloproliferative neoplasm, the disruption of BM microenvironment promotes haematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) mobilisation, resulting in the onset of EMH in the spleen, and then in splenomegaly.

Involvement of Angiopoietin 2 and vascular endothelial growth factor in uveitis.
PurposeAngiopoietin (Ang) 2 is released from vascular endothelial cells by the stimulation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)A. Ang2 increases the expression of leukocyte adhesion molecules on endothelial cells via nuclear factor κB. The aim of

Understanding exosomes: Part 2—Emerging leaders in regenerative medicine
Abstract Exosomes are the smallest subset of extracellular signaling vesicles secreted by most cells with the ability to communicate with other tissues and cell types over long distances. Their use in regenerative medicine has gained tremendous momentum recently due to their ability to be utilized as therapeutic options for a wide array of diseases ...

Development of Clarstatin, a Novel Drug Lead for the Therapy of Autoimmune Uveitis
We describe the design, synthesis, and activity of a potent thiourea-bridged backbone cyclic peptidomimetic known as Clarstatin, comprising a 5-amino acid sequence (Q/D)1-(R/K)2-X3-X4-A5-(Gln/Asp)1-(Arg/Lys)2-AA3-AA4-Ala5-based on a motif called “shared ...

IL-10 has a protective role in experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis [PDF]
The role of IL-10 in the regulation of ocular autoimmune disease was studied in experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis (EAU) elicited in mice by immunization with the retinal antigen interphotoreceptor retinoid binding protein. IL-10-deficient mice were susceptible to EAU, indicating that pathogenesis can occur without presence of IL-10.
