Preclinical translation of exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem/stromal cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Exosomes are nanovesicles secreted by virtually all cells. Exosomes mediate the horizontal transfer of various macromolecules previously believed to be cell-autonomous in nature, including nonsecretory proteins, various classes of RNA, metabolites, and ...

Biomimetic Iridescent Skin: Robust Prototissues Spontaneously Assembled from Photonic Protocells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform nanoparticles are induced to form arrays (photonic crystals) in the cores of biopolymer capsules, endowing these ‘protocells’ with structural color. These protocells are then assembled into large self‐standing objects, i.e., prototissues, with robust mechanical properties as well as iridescent optical properties.

Proteomic insights uncover enhanced neurotherapeutic potential in conditioned mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles

open access: yesExtracellular Vesicle
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) show more potential as therapeutic agents for treating neurological disorders than their parent cells like MSCs. Notably, the therapeutic efficacy of MSCs can be boosted by inflammation factors and oxidative stressors.

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

A 3D Biofabricated Disease Model Mimicking the Brain Extracellular Matrix Suitable to Characterize Intrinsic Neuronal Network Alterations in the Presence of a Breast Tumor Disseminated to the Brain

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D disease model is developed using customized hyaluronic‐acid‐based hydrogels supplemented with extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins resembling brain ECM properties. Neurons, astrocytes, and tumor cells are used to mimic the native brain surrounding.

Extracellular vesicles for breast cancer diagnosis and therapy

open access: yesExtracellular Vesicle
Breast cancer is still suffering from its poor diagnosis and the lack of effective treatment. Despite of recent development of some novel chemicals, which are found to have inspiring therapeutic effects in vitro, their outcomes in clinic trails are ...
