The Effect of Summer Cover Cropping on Soil Health Is Limited by the Quantity of Carbon Inputs in a Winter Dominant Low Rainfall Environment

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, Volume 5, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The effects of summer cover crops on cash crop yields and soil health in semi‐arid cropping systems in southern Australia remain largely unexplored. A study was conducted in Western Australia to investigate cover crop impacts on soil carbon and nitrogen cycling, soil water, and mineral nitrogen (N) and cash crop yield.

Certain Western Himalayan populations of buckwheat (Fagopyrum spp.) exhibit differential drought tolerance during seedling establishment

open access: yesDiscover Plants
Buckwheat (Fagopyrum spp.) is a promising crop owing to its significant nutritional and pharmaceutical value as well as its ability to thrive under diverse stressful growth conditions. Such ability could be expected to vary in a genotype specific manner.

Rutin in buckwheat grain meal determined by UV photoacoustic spectroscopy and HPLC

open access: yesNova Biotechnologica et Chimica, 2017
A relatively novel approach for easy and quick determination of rutin in buckwheat grain is suggested. The rutin content of the grain in seven common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) and six Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) varieties was ...

Breeding Buckwheat for Increased Levels and Improved Quality of Protein

open access: yesPlants, 2020
Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum (L.) Gaertn.) and common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) are important sources of proteins with balanced amino-acid compositions, and thus of high nutritional value.

Enhancing soil health through no‐till, cover crops, and compost: A 5‐year field study

open access: yesSoil Science Society of America Journal, Volume 90, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
Abstract The capacity of soil management systems to conserve and promote soil health is crucial for its sustainability. While the effects of individual soil management practices on soil health receive considerable attention, their combined effects remain understudied. This paper presents the results of a 5‐year field experiment designed to evaluate the

Sugar provisioning increases parasitoid numbers in agroecosystems but may not reduce pest densities: A meta‐analysis

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 5, May 2026.
Our findings demonstrate that providing sugar sources reliably supports parasitoid populations and parasitism rate but does not systematically translate into improved pest suppression or yield gains. These results suggest that, for economic and practical reasons, sugar inputs at the edge of cultivated fields should be favoured.
