Fas and Fas ligand protein and mRNA in normal and atretic mouse ovarian follicles [PDF]

open access: yesReproduction, 2003
Abstract Apoptosis is the underlying mechanism of follicular atresia in the mammalian ovary. However, the apoptotic pathways governing this ovarian process are not completely elucidated. In the present study, expression of Fas and Fas ligand, the proximal members of the death receptor pathway, was evaluated in mouse ovarian follicles ...

The Critical Role of Protein Kinase C-θ in Fas/Fas Ligand-Mediated Apoptosis [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 2007
Abstract A functional immune system not only requires rapid expansion of antigenic specific T cells, but also requires efficient deletion of clonally expanded T cells to avoid accumulation of T cells. Fas/Fas ligand (FasL)-mediated apoptosis plays a critical role in the deletion of activated peripheral T cells, which is clearly ...

Ethanol-mediated alterations in oligodendrocyte differentiation in the developing brain

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2021
Introduction: Alterations of white matter integrity and subsequent white matter structural deficits are consistent findings in Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), but knowledge regarding the molecular mechanisms underlying these abnormalities is incomplete ...

Soluble Fas and Soluble Fas Ligand Proteins in Human Milk: Possible Significance in the Development of Immunological Tolerance [PDF]

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Immunology, 1999
Human milk contains a complex uncharacterized, immune system able to exert actions both locally and systemically. This study reports the results of an ELISA‐based quantitation of soluble Fas and soluble Fas ligand in human milk which may modulate the Fas/FasL system that is critical for the expression of immune tolerance and apoptosis.

p38 Mitogen-activated Protein Kinase Is Involved in Fas Ligand Expression [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1999
p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) is activated by T cell receptor engagement. Here we showed that T cell receptor activated p38alpha but not p38delta. Inhibition of p38alpha by the specific inhibitor SB 203580 prevented activation-induced cell death in T cells. SB 203580 had no effect on Fas-initiated apoptosis.

Transfer of Fas (CD95) protein from the cell surface to the surface of polystyrene beads coated with anti-Fas antibody clone CH-11

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Histochemistry, 2010
Mouse monoclonal anti-Fas (CD95) antibody clone CH-11 has been widely used in research on apoptosis. CH-11 has the ability to bind to Fas protein on cell surface and induce apoptosis.

Identification of SH3 domain interaction partners of human FasL (CD178) by phage display screening

open access: yesBMC Immunology, 2009
Background - Fas ligand is a cytotoxic effector molecule of T and NK cells which is characterized by an intracellular N-terminal polyproline region that serves as a docking site for SH3 and WW domain proteins.

The Mouse Cell Surface Protein TOSO Regulates Fas/Fas Ligand-induced Apoptosis through Its Binding to Fas-associated Death Domain [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2005
Mouse TOSO, the homologue of human TOSO gene, was cloned and characterized in the present study. Using immunofluorescence confocal microscopy we localized TOSO to the cytoplasmic membrane of expressing cells. Using stably transfected mouse TOSO (mTOSO)-expressing Jurkat cells, we show that TOSO protects cells from Fas/Fas ligand- and tumor necrosis ...

Fas induces apoptosis in human coronary artery endothelial cells in vitro

open access: yesBMC Cell Biology, 2004
Background Published work suggests that some types of endothelial cells undergo apoptosis in response to ligation of the receptor Fas (CD95, APO1) but other types are resistant.

Receptor interacting protein-2 plays a critical role in human lung epithelial cells survival in response to Fas-induced cell-death. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Lung epithelial cell death is critical to the lung injury that occurs in the acute respiratory distress syndrome. It is known that FasL plays a prominent role in this lung cell death pathway and may work in part through activation of the receptor ...
