Cholesterol interference in analysis of fatty acid methyl esters
Lipids, 1971AbstractIn the course of isolating and analyzing the fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) from steelhead trout (Salmo gairdneri) eggs and sac fry, a component was found on gas liquid chromatography to have a retention time longer than any characteristic polyunsaturated fatty acid previously encountered in trout.

Permeability behavior of liposomes prepared from fatty acids and fatty acid methyl esters
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1986The permeability properties of liposomes prepared at pH 8.7 from a fatty acid and either methyl oleate or methyl elaidate, with or without cholesterol, were investigated. The fatty acids used were oleic acid, elaidic acid, and the selenium-containing fatty acids 9-selenaheptadecanoic acid and 13-selenaheneicosanoic acid.

Fatty acid methyl and ethyl esters in Tetrahymena pyriformis
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1972Abstract Fatty acid esters of methanol and ethanol have been found as natural products in Tetrahymena pyriformis . Several such esters were resolved by gas-liquid chromatography and were characterized by mass spectroscopy.

A method to prepare fatty acid methyl esters was developed for fatty acid analysis of triacylglycerols by gas chromatography (GC). Triacylglycerols were mixed with methanolic CH3ONa in hexane containing a mid-polar solvent for 10 s at room temperature. Under these conditions, trioleoylglycerol was converted to methyl oleate with an average yield of 99 ...

Dilatometric investigations of fatty acid methyl esters
Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1955SummaryThe coefficients of expansion and melting dilations were measured for methyl palmitate, methyl stearate, methyl arachidate, methyl behenate, and methyl oleate. The dilatometric curve for the heating cycle of methyl palmitate and methyl stearate in the solid state was composed of a linear section to 49 degrees below the melting point, followed by

Crystallization Behavior of Fatty Acid Methyl Esters
Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 2008AbstractBiodiesel from most agricultural feedstocks has flow properties that are prone to startup and operability problems during cold weather. Biodiesel from soybean oil is generally a mixture of long‐chain fatty acid alkyl esters composed of 0.15–0.20 mass fraction saturated esters (melting point [MP] ≫ 0 °C) mixed with unsaturated esters (MP < 0 °

Methyl esters in the fatty acid industry
Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1979AbstractMethyl esters, derived from natural fats or oils, can be used as alternatives to fatty acids in the production of a number of derivatives. The derivatives that can be made from methyl esters include fatty alkanolamides, fatty alcohols, isopropyl esters, and sucrose polyesters. By using methyl esters as the raw materials, several benefits may be

Mutual solubilities of some fatty acid methyl esters
Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1974AbstractMutual solubility data have been obtained for methyl esters of the predominant fatty acids in vegetable oils. Binary freezing point diagrams are presented for systems exhibiting regions of metastable equilibria. Simple eutectic systems were obtained for both saturated‐unsaturated and unsaturated‐unsaturated methyl ester binary mixtures.

Ozonization products of unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters
Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 1976Low temperature ozonization of the methyl esters of all-cis nonconjugated fatty acids, containing 1 to 4 double bonds in pentane, gave high yields of normal ozonides of the parent ester as the major product of the reaction. Ozonization of all-cis methyl eicosapentaenoate and docosahexaenoate under the same conditions gave a mixture of normal ozonides ...

Efficient synthesis of fatty monoglyceride sulfates from fatty acids and fatty acid methyl esters
Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1990AbstractAn efficient high yield synthesis of fatty monoglyceride sulfates from fatty acids or fatty acid methyl esters, glycerine and chlorosulfuric acid in chloroform using stoichiometric amounts of reagents was developed. Sodium coco monoglyceride sulfate was prepared in 79% yield with 93% purity from coco fatty acids.
