Efficacy and Safety Assessment of 5‐Fluorouracil, Irinotecan and Oxaliplatin‐Loaded Implants in Mouse and Pig Models for Pancreatic Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A novel FIRINOX‐loaded implant demonstrates controlled drug release, and potent therapeutic efficacy in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma mouse models with safety confirmed in a large‐animal pre‐clinical model. This innovative drug delivery platform offers a promising new treatment approach for non‐resectable, treatment‐resistant pancreatic cancer ...

High prevalence and risk factors of fecal carriage of CTX-M type extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae from healthy rural residents of Taian, China

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
The study was carried out to understand the prevalence of CTX-M type extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-haboring Enterobacteriaceae and to analyze risk factors related with fecal carriage in healthy rural residents in Taian, China.

Community carriage of ESBL-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae: a cross-sectional study of risk factors and comparative genomics of carriage and clinical isolates

open access: yesmSphere, 2023
The global prevalence of infections caused by extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacterales (ESBL-E) is increasing, and for Escherichia coli, observations indicate that this is partly driven by community-onset cases.

Dual‐Functional Ingestible Passive Capsules for High‐Throughput Intestinal Sampling with Sealed Containment and Targeted Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
To address challenges in high‐throughput intestinal sampling with sealed containment and target drug delivery, we developed a dual‐functional ingestible passive capsule with a dual‐triggered control system based on pH‐response and mechanical actuation.

Fecal Carriage of Extended-Spectrum beta-Lactamase Producing Escherichia coli among Health Science Students

open access: yesJournal of Nepal Health Research Council, 2022
Background: The incidence of antibiotic resistance in commensal bacteria is increasing with the production of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase. Therefore, this study was conducted to understand the status of fecal carriage of such enzyme producing ...

Tumbling Magnetic Microrobots for Targeted In Vivo Drug Delivery in the GI Tract

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We introduce a microrobot design and integrated system for on‐demand targeted drug release in the gastrointestinal tract. The microrobot has an embedded magnet for actuation with external magnetic fields and is visualized in real time using ultrasound. It has two drug release ports sealed with a thermally sensitive wax. Local heating of the wax using a

Incidence of fecal Enterobacteriaceae producing broad-spectrum beta-lactamases in patients with hematological malignancies

open access: yesBiomedical Papers, 2015
Aim: Given the steadily increasing numbers of resistant bacteria, the frequency and severity of infections are on the rise. In patients with hematological malignancies, the treatment itself increases the risk of complicating bacterial infections.

A Bifunctional T3SS‐Effector Simultaneously Cleaves Host MAP Kinase and Inhibits PPM1A Phosphatase

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pathogenic bacteria exploit the metalloprotease effector NleD to subvert host defenses. Structural, biochemical, and infection analyses reveal a bifunctional mechanism by which NleD binds and inhibits the host phosphatase PPM1A while preserving its proteolytic activity against MAPKs.
