Within the framework of biocontrol development, three natural substances produced by Bacillus subtilis, called lipopeptides, have been studied: fengycin (F), surfactin (S), and mycosubtilin (M). Their antifungal properties were tested in vitro, in liquid

Deciphering Role of Endophytes in Plant Defences and Biotic Stress Resilience Across Families
ABSTRACT Plant families generate distinct repertoires of specialised metabolites that govern their biotic interactions. Endophytes strengthen host plant defence mechanisms and tolerance to biotic challenges by upregulating metabolite biosynthesis, modifying precursor compounds into more potent forms, or by directly synthesising analogous defence ...

From Rhizosphere to Resistance: Microbe‐Plant Interactions in Eco‐Smart Biocontrol
Conceptual framework of eco‐smart biocontrol: Root exudates released by plants shape rhizosphere microbial community assembly by selectively recruiting beneficial microorganisms. These microbes suppress phytopathogens through direct mechanisms such as antibiosis, parasitism, enzyme production, and niche competition, while simultaneously activating ...

Influence of environmental conditions on the interfacial organisation of fengycin, a bioactive lipopeptide produced by Bacillus subtilis [PDF]
The effect of the environmental conditions both on the behaviour of fengycin at the air-aqueous interface and on its interaction with DPPC was studied using surface pressure-area isotherms and AFM. The ionisation state of fengycin is at the origin of its

As close relatives, Bacillus paralicheniformis is often wrongly identified as Bacillus licheniformis. In this study, two genetic markers are presented based on fenC and fenD from the fengycin operon of B.

Safety Evaluation of Bacillus Isolates From Fermented Tarhana With Probiotic Potential
Fifty‐three Bacillus strains were isolated from traditional tarhana. MALDI‐TOF MS identified the isolates within the Bacillus subtilis group. None of the isolates harbored the tested virulence genes. The isolates exhibited high tolerance to bile salts and simulated gastric conditions.

ABSTRACT The escalating global crisis of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), particularly among the ESKAPE group, necessitates the discovery of novel therapeutic agents. Soil ecosystems represent a vast, under‐explored repository of microbial secondary metabolites with potent antimicrobial properties. This study aimed to identify soil‐derived bacteria with

Sequence completion, identification and definition of the fengycin operon in Bacillus subtilis 168 [PDF]
A 15 kb DNA fragment from the Bacillus subtilis chromosome between citB and ppsC has been sequenced, and new ORFs encoding putative enzymes involved in lipopolypeptide synthesis, which complete a partial operon previously reported, and a new set of enzymes responsible for lipid metabolism have been identified. From the analysis of DNA sequence homology

Bacillus strains are widely used as biological control agents to protect plants from fungal pathogens. However, whether Bacillus can exploit fungal pathogens to increase its biocontrol efficacy remains largely unexplored.
