THE presence of a saponin in the seeds of Trigonella Foenum graecum (Leguminosae) was first reported by Wunschendorff1, who had subjected the defatted seeds to a process of extraction with alcohol. He obtained from the alcoholic extract a gelatinous precipitate which was afterwards dissolved in alcohol and reprecipitated with ether.

Sced maturation studies in fenugreek ev. Co I indicated that the seeds attained harvestable maturity 45 days after anthesis as evident from maximum germination and vigour. The seed moisture content at this stage was around 20 per cent. The seeds attained physiological maturity 40 days after anthesis as indicated by maximum dry weight of seed.
