Effect of repeated hot water immersion on muscle strength, power, function and physical activity in healthy older adults: A randomised crossover trial

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Ageing leads to an increased prevalence of sarcopenia and frailty, characterised by progressive declines in muscle strength, power and function and reduced physical activity. Hot water immersion (HWI) could potentially improve muscle function, but this is yet to be explored in older adults.

Bedside risk score for medical therapy failure in small‐volume BPH: Temporal validation

open access: yesBJUI Compass, Volume 7, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Purpose Medical therapy is the first‐line treatment for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). However, predictors of treatment failure in men with small prostate volume (<30 ml) remain poorly defined.

The influence of age and the presence of prostate cancer on prostate volume, PSA and PSA density

open access: yesBJU International, Volume 137, Issue 5, Page 805-812, May 2026.
Objective To assess prostate volume (PV) changes with age in symptomatic and asymptomatic men with and without clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa). In symptomatic patients, we additionally analysed the effect of age and csPCa on PSA and PSA‐density (PSA‐D) and compared these to current National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)

Amyloid β Instigates Cardiac Neurotrophic Signaling Impairment, Driving Alzheimer's Associated Heart Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 20, 9 April 2026.
This research identified cardiac amyloid pathology, neurotrophic factor depletion, and reduced myocardial nerve function in a transgenic model of cerebral amyloidosis (Tg2576), Aβ‐challenged cardiomyocytes, and in human AD heart tissue. These findings carry significant diagnostic and therapeutic implications, emphasizing the role of neuro‐signaling ...

Finasteride promotes worsening of the cardiac deleterious effects of nandrolone decanoate and protects against genotoxic and cytotoxic damage

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2020
Metabolism of anabolic androgenic steroids is important for its physiological effects. The aim was to investigate the effects of finasteride (a 5α-reductase inhibitor - 5αR) on cardiac and mutagenic effects promoted by ND. Male Wistar rats were separated
