Virus discovery reveals frequent infection by diverse novel members of the Flaviviridae in wild lemurs [PDF]

open access: greenArchives of Virology, 2018
Lemurs are highly endangered mammals inhabiting the forests of Madagascar. In this study, we performed virus discovery on serum samples collected from 84 wild lemurs and identified viral sequence fragments from 4 novel viruses within the family Flaviviridae, including members of the genera Hepacivirus and Pegivirus.

Examining innate responses to Flaviviridae infection: how myeloid cells respond to and are modulated by bovine viral diarrhea virus in vivo and in vitro.

open access: gold, 2012
Disease associated with BVDV infection can be devastating ranging to millions of dollars in loss to the cattle industry. As well, infection with BVDV leads to an immune-suppressed host though an unknown mechanism(s). Although there are vaccines available, they are not broadly protective and ineffective in PI cattle.

Zika virus serological diagnosis: commercial tests and monoclonal antibodies as tools [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Venomous Animals and Toxins including Tropical Diseases, 2020
Zika virus (ZIKV), an emerging arthropod-borne virus (arbovirus) of the Flaviviridae family, is a current issue worldwide, particularly because of the congenital and neurological syndromes associated with infection by this virus.

Identification of novel neutralizing determinants for protection against HCV

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Identification of novel neutralizing determinants for protection against hepatitis C virus. Abstract Background and Aims HCV evasion of neutralizing antibodies (nAb) results in viral persistence and poses challenges to the development of an urgently needed vaccine.

Encephalitic Arboviruses of Africa: Emergence, Clinical Presentation and Neuropathogenesis

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2021
Many mosquito-borne viruses (arboviruses) are endemic in Africa, contributing to systemic and neurological infections in various geographical locations on the continent. While most arboviral infections do not lead to neuroinvasive diseases of the central

The envelope protein of Zika virus interacts with apolipoprotein E early in the infectious cycle and this interaction is conserved on the secreted viral particles

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2022
Background Zika virus (ZIKV), a member of the Flaviviridae family, has caused massive outbreaks of infection in tropical areas over the last decade and has now begun spreading to temperate countries.

Pathogenesis of Modoc Virus (Flaviviridae; Flavivirus) in Persistently Infected Hamsters [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2013
The long-term persistence of Modoc virus (MODV) infection was investigated in a hamster model. Golden hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus) were infected by subcutaneous inoculation with MODV, in which fatal encephalitis developed in 12.5% (2 of 16). Surviving hamsters shed infectious MODV in their urine during the first five months after infection, and ...

Anti-flavivirus Properties of Lipid-Lowering Drugs

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2021
Although Flaviviruses such as dengue (DENV) and zika (ZIKV) virus are important human pathogens, an effective vaccine or antiviral treatment against them is not available. Hence, the search for new strategies to control flavivirus infections is essential.

Management of acute gingival bleeding in biphasic dengue fever with zinc oxide eugenol dressing

open access: yesIndian Journal of Dental Sciences, 2023
Gingival bleeding is a common clinical finding associated with plague. It is also associated with systemic diseases, including viral and bacterial infections. Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is transmitted by virus belongs to Flaviviridae through infected
