Biochemical Characterization of a Flavone Synthase I from Daucus carota and its Application for Bioconversion of Flavanones to Flavones [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2022
In this study, we studied the biochemical characterization of flavone synthase I from Daucus carota (DcFNS I) and applied it with flavonoid 6-hydroxylase from Scutellaria baicalensis (SbCYP) to convert flavanones to flavones. The recombinant DcFNS I was expressed in the form of the glutathione-S-transferase fusion protein.

Functional characterization of two flavone synthase II members in citrus [PDF]

open access: yesHorticulture Research, 2023
AbstractPolymethoxylated flavones (PMFs), the main form of flavones in citrus, are derived from the flavone branch of the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway. Flavone synthases (FNSs) are enzymes that catalyze the synthesis of flavones from flavanones. However, the FNS in citrus has not been characterized yet.

The Identification of Maize and Arabidopsis Type I FLAVONE SYNTHASEs Links Flavones with Hormones and Biotic Interactions [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 2015
Flavones are a major group of flavonoids with diverse functions and are extensively distributed in land plants. There are two different classes of FLAVONE SYNTHASE (FNS) enzymes that catalyze the conversion of the flavanones into flavones. The FNSI class comprises soluble Fe(2+)/2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenases, and FNSII enzymes are oxygen- and ...

Endogenous post-transcriptional gene silencing of flavone synthase resulting in high accumulation of anthocyanins in black dahlia cultivars [PDF]

open access: yesPlanta, 2013
Black color in flowers is a highly attractive trait in the floricultural industry, but its underlying mechanisms are largely unknown. This study was performed to identify the bases of the high accumulation of anthocyanidins in black cultivars and to determine whether the high accumulation of total anthocyanidins alone leads to the black appearance. Our

The Biosynthesis and Functions of Flavonoids: Recent Advances From Studies Across Land Plant Diversity [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Volume 56, Issue 3, June 2026.
Over the last decade there have been significant advances in genome sequencing and model species development for ferns, lycophytes, and the bryophyte lineages—mosses, liverworts, and hornworts. This has facilitated research on the biosynthesis and function of flavonoids in these non‐seed land‐plant lineages.

Functional characterization of aPlagiochasma appendiculatumflavone synthase I showing flavanone 2‐hydroxylase activity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 2014
FNS I is a 2‐oxoglutarate dependent dioxygenase (2‐ODD) found mainly in species of the Apiaceae family. Here, anFNS IcDNA sequence was isolated from the liverwortPlagiochasma appendiculatum(Aytoniaceae) and characterized. The recombinant protein exhibited high FNS I activity catalyzing the conversion of naringenin to apigenin and 2‐hydroxynaringenin ...

Investigation of Two Distinct Flavone Synthases for Plant-Specific Flavone Biosynthesis inSaccharomyces cerevisiae [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 2005
ABSTRACTFlavones are plant secondary metabolites that have wide pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications. We previously constructed a recombinant flavanone pathway by expressing inSaccharomyces cerevisiaea four-step recombinant pathway that consists of cinnamate-4 hydroxylase, 4-coumaroyl:coenzyme A ligase, chalcone synthase, and chalcone ...
