Ferulic acid‐impregnated sodium alginate–pectin biopolymer film for active packaging and shelf‐life extension of potato chips

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 11, Page 6428-6441, 30 August 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND This study explores the development of active films incorporating ferulic acid (FA), a natural antioxidant, at concentrations of 0 (F1), 2.5 (F2), and 5 g L−1 (F3) into sodium alginate (SA; 13 g kg−1) and pectin (P; 10 g kg−1) matrix.

Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 15, 5 August 2026.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.

Dual Functions of Dietary Rubber Seed Oil Supplementation: Enriching N‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Enhancing Antioxidant Capacity in Pekin Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, Volume 4, Issue 3, Page 247-260, August 2026.
Dietary RSO supplementation improved growth performance, simultaneously enriched n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA), and enhanced antioxidant capacity in Pekin ducks, which suggested that RSO has the potential to be a novel n‐3 PUFA source and an antioxidant for Pekin ducks to generate animal functional foods.

A Feasibility Assessment of Measuring Acceptance and Adherence to a Plant‐Based (Vegan) Diet in a Cardiology Clinic

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, Volume 49, Issue 8, August 2026.
A plant‐based vegan diet in cardiac outpatients was feasible and well accepted, with 55% achieving full adherence. Improvements in PBVD score, cholesterol, BMI, weight, and waist circumference were observed over 8 weeks. The PBVD score is a useful tool for assessing adherence and diet quality. ABSTRACT Background Plant‐based vegan diets (PBVDs) improve

Effects of ketogenic and low‐carbohydrate diet on glucose and weight control in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients along with metabolome change

open access: yesClinical and Translational Discovery, Volume 6, Issue 4, August 2026.
Both the low‐carbohydrate diet (LCD) and the ketogenic diet (KD) positively affect body weight and glucose metabolism in type 2 diabetes. Metabolomic signatures sensitively reflect each diet and correlate with clinical improvements – distinct metabolite associations with glycated haemoglobin and weight were identified for LCD versus KD.
