Staurosporine induces endothelial cell apoptosis via focal adhesion kinase dephosphorylation and focal adhesion disassembly independent of focal adhesion kinase proteolysis [PDF]
The survival of endothelial cells is dependent on interactions between the matrix and integrins mediated through focal adhesions. Focal adhesion kinase (FAK) is thought to play a key role in maintaining focal adhesion function and cell survival, whereas caspase-mediated FAK proteolysis is implicated in focal adhesion disassembly during apoptosis.

ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

A role for Syk-kinase in the control of the binding cycle of the β2 integrins (CD11/CD18) in human polymorphonuclear neutrophils [PDF]
A fine control of β2 integrin (CD11/CD18)-mediated firm adhesion of human neutrophils to the endothelial cell monolayer is required to allow ordered emigration.

Focal Adhesion Kinase: The Reversible Molecular Mechanosensor [PDF]
Sensors are the first element of the pathways that control the response of cells to their environment. Protein complexes that produce or enable a chemical signal in response to a mechanical stimulus are called “mechanosensors”. In this work, we develop a theoretical model describing the physical mechanism of a reversible single-molecule stiffness ...

Diverse cell junctions with unique molecular composition in tissues of a sponge (Porifera)
The integrity and organization of animal tissues depend upon specialized protein complexes that mediate adhesion between cells with each other (cadherin-based adherens junctions), and with the extracellular matrix (integrin-based focal adhesions ...

Activation of pyk2/Related Focal Adhesion Tyrosine Kinase and Focal Adhesion Kinase in Cardiac Remodeling [PDF]
Cellular remodeling during progression of dilation involves focal adhesion contact reorganization. However, the signaling mechanisms and structural consequences leading to impaired cardiomyocyte adhesion are poorly defined. These events were studied in tropomodulin-overexpressing transgenic mice that develop dilated cardiomyopathy associated with ...

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Differential regulation of adhesion complex turnover by ROCK1 and ROCK2. [PDF]
ROCK1 and ROCK2 are serine/threonine kinases that function downstream of the small GTP-binding protein RhoA. Rho signalling via ROCK regulates a number of cellular functions including organisation of the actin cytoskeleton, cell adhesion and cell ...
