Molecular Cloning of the Human Placental Folate Transporter
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1995We have isolated a cDNA clone from a human placental library which codes for a functional folate transporter (hFOLT). An RT-PCR product obtained from mouse intestinal mRNA using primers specific for the mouse folate transporter cDNA was used to screen the cDNA library.

An exploration into the transplacental transfer of microplastics through placental transporters.
Journal of Environmental ScienceMicroplastic (MP) and nanoplastic (NP) exposure has been proven to cause placental damage and fetal dysplasia in mammals. The distribution and accumulation of MPs and NPs in human placental tissue were partly explored.

Disorders of Folate Metabolism and Transport
2013Folates play an essential role in one-carbon methyl transfer reactions, mediating several biological processes including DNA synthesis, regulation of gene expression through methylation reactions, embryonic central nervous system development, synthesis and breakdown of amino acids, and synthesis of thymidines, purines, and neurotransmitters. In mammals,

Computational insights into maternal environmental pollutants and folate pathway regulation.
Reproductive ToxicologyExposure to environmental pollutants during pregnancy can adversely affect fetal growth and postnatal development. While numerous studies have explored the interaction between environmental toxic chemicals and the folate pathway, few have examined their ...

Folate-mediated Transport of Nanoparticles across the Placenta
Pharmaceutical NanotechnologyBackground: In this study, a prototype of a targeted nanocarrier for drug delivery for prenatal therapy of the developing fetus was developed and examined in vitro and ex vivo. The folate transport mechanism in the human placenta was utilized as a possible pathway for the transplacental delivery of targeted ...
