Adaptive Shock Compensation in the Multi-layer Network of Global Food Production and Trade [PDF]
Global food production and trade networks are highly dynamic, especially in response to shortages when countries adjust their supply strategies. In this study, we examine adjustments across 123 agri-food products from 192 countries resulting in 23616 individual scenarios of food shortage, and calibrate a multi-layer network model to understand the ...

Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

Aspartame Food Additive and its Biochemical Implication: A Review [PDF]
There are thousands of substances known as additives that are intentionally added to the food that we consume. The foods may be prepared at home, offices, or processed in industries.

Alkane biosynthesis gene expression and its increased production in recombinant cyanobacteria
The transcription and mRNA structures of the alkane biosynthesis genes ado/aar were analysed in the representative cyanobacteria PCC 6803 and SK1‐2‐1, which produce C17H36 and C15H32, respectively. PCC 6803 transconjugants carrying these genes showed a 1.8‐ to 2.3‐fold increase in C17H36 production.

The C. elegans tetraspanin‐7 (tsp‐7) is a homologue of human CD63, which is a negative regulator of autophagy. The C. elegans strain, tm5761, has a dysfunctional (knockout) tsp‐7 gene. When compared to the wild‐type strain, the tm5761 strain shows increased: life‐ and health‐span; thermotolerance, and stress‐induced locomotion.

We introduce an immunohistochemistry method to measure autophagy flux, highlighting the active degradation and recycling of cellular waste. This cost‐effective approach uses tissue samples to track key markers like LC3 and SQSTM1, revealing how cells maintain health or respond to diseases such as cancer. It bridges the gap between research and clinical

Establishment and biological characterization of radioresistant colorectal cancer cell lines
Under ionizing radiation exposure, radiation‐sensitive cancer cells exhibit oxidative stress and DNA damage, while radiation‐resistant cancer cells exhibit strong antioxidant properties and DNA damage repair. Radiotherapy resistance is a major cause of recurrence and metastasis in colorectal cancer (CRC).

The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Automating Food Drop: The Power of Two Choices for Dynamic and Fair Food Allocation [PDF]
Food waste and food insecurity are two closely related pressing global issues. Food rescue organizations worldwide run programs aimed at addressing the two problems. In this paper, we partner with a non-profit organization in the state of Indiana that leads \emph{Food Drop}, a program that is designed to redirect rejected truckloads of food away from ...
