Performance Impact of Digitalization in the Food Supply Chain: Evidence from the Food Processing Complex in Ethiopia

open access: yesLogistics
Background: Although digitalization is recognized to improve the food supply chain, its effect pathways have not been thoroughly researched, especially in the context of developing countries.

Logistics integration processes in the food industry [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper analyses the integration process that firms follow to implement Supply Chain Management (SCM). This study has been inspired in the integration model proposed by Stevens (1989).

Unleashing the Potential of Digitalization in the Agri-Food Chain for Integrated Food Systems

open access: yesAnnual Review of Food Science and Technology
Digitalization transforms many industries, especially manufacturing, with new concepts such as Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things. However, information technology also has the potential to integrate and connect the various steps in the supply chain.

Integrating Inventory and Transport Capacity Planning in a Food Supply Chain

open access: yesInternational Journal of Simulation Modelling, 2020
[EN] The general objective of this paper is to simulate a supply chain to assess the effects that different inventory management policies and transport capacity systems have on costs (transport) and service levels (stockouts). This paper specifically aimed to facilitate the decision-making process about planning distribution capacities, particularly ...

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

The C‐terminal region of KIF26B is indispensable for nephron progenitor condensation and kidney formation in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KIF26B plays an important role in kidney development. We engineered mice lacking the C‐terminal region of KIF26B and found severe kidney defects, including bilateral renal agenesis, similar to full Kif26b knockout mice. The mutation disrupted nephron progenitor condensation and reduced Gdnf‐Wnt11 signaling, showing that the KIF26B C‐terminal region is ...

Food Chain Integration and Fluid Milk Marketing

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1978
Abstract Major structural changes in marketing are occurring with the integration of food chains into the processing and distribution of fluid milk. Thus, the objectives of this study were 1) to determine the extent of vertical integration by food chains and 2) to explore the implications of such for the dairy industry.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...
