Forkhead transcription factors in immunology
CMLS Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2005The forkhead (Fox) gene family comprises a diverse group of "winged-helix" transcription factors that play important roles in development, metabolism, cancer and aging. Recently, several forkhead genes have been demonstrated to play critical roles in lymphocyte development and effector function, including Foxp3 in the development of regulatory T cells,

Forkhead transcription factor foxe1 regulates chondrogenesis in zebrafish
Journal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, 2009AbstractForkhead transcription factor (Fox) e1 is a causative gene for Bamforth–Lazarus syndrome, which is characterized by hypothyroidism and cleft palate. Applying degenerate polymerase chain reaction using primers specific for the conserved forkhead domain, we identified zebrafish foxe1 (foxe1).

Forkhead-box transcription factors and their role in the immune system
Nature Reviews Immunology, 2004It is more than a decade since the discovery of the first forkhead-box (FOX) transcription factor in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. In the intervening time, there has been an explosion in the identification and characterization of members of this family of proteins. Importantly, in the past few years, it has become clear that members of the FOX

Forkhead family transcription factor FoxO and neural differentiation
neurogenetics, 2012The Forkhead Box subgroup O (FoxO) transcription factor family is one of the most important downstream targets of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B signaling pathway playing an important role in many biological functions including transcriptional regulation of cellular differentiation.

Expression of forkhead transcription factors in human granulosa cells
Fertility and Sterility, 2009Members of the forkhead box O1 (FOXO) family of transcription factors are expressed in granulosa cells during various stages of follicle development, and evidence from rodent and other model systems suggests that they may be involved in regulating follicular activation and oocyte maturation.

Forkhead transcription factor Foxo1 is essential for adipocyte differentiation
In Vitro Cellular & Developmental Biology - Animal, 2009We analyzed the physiological role of forkhead box class O 1 (Foxo1) in adipocyte differentiation by suppressing Foxo1 mRNAwith siRNA specific for Foxo1.Mouse 3T3-L1 preadipocytes infected with an adenovirus expressing Foxo1-siRNA showed a marked decrease in lipid droplet formation when induced to differentiate into adipocytes.

Pathophysiological Relevance of Forkhead Transcription Factors in Brain Ischemia
2009Forkhead box transcription factor, class 0 (FOXO) is a mammalian homologue of DAF-16, which is known to regulate the lifespan of Caenorhabditis elegans and includes subfamiies of forkhead transcription factors such as FOXO1 (FKHR). FOXO3 (FKHRL1), FOXO4 (AFX) and FOXO6.

Forkhead Transcription Factors Block Cell Cycle
Science's STKE, 2000Forkhead proteins are involved in controlling the life span of nematodes. Their activation through phosphorylation by protein kinase B (PKB) is thought to protect cells from cell death (see news and views article by Pulverer). Medema et al . show that in mammalian cells Forkhead transcription factors regulate the
