Emerging classes of antioxidant to cancer therapy: a review of clinical and experimental studies [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
This review mainly focuses on the relation between antioxidants with cancer therapy. Antioxidants have been reported to play an essential role to reduce free radical species. Free radicals commonly cause oxidative damage which is a common factor in the aging process, and also the vital factor of formation, and development of major disease specially ...

Influence of Humidity, Temperature and Radicals on the Formation and Thermal Properties of Secondary Organic Aerosol (SOA) from Ozonolysis of β-pinene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The influence of water and radicals on SOAs produced by {\beta}-pinene ozonolysis was investigated at 298 and 288 K using a laminar flow reactor. A volatility tandem differential mobility analyzer (VTDMA) was used to measure the evaporation of the SOA, enabling the parameterization of its volatility properties.

Free Radical Scavenging Potency of Dihydroxybenzoic Acids [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, 2017
In order to evaluate the free radical scavenging potency of dihydroxybenzoic acids (DHBAs) the Density Functional Theory (DFT) was used. The M05-2X/6-311++G(d,p) and B3LYP-D2/6-311++G(d,p) theoretical models were applied. Three possible antioxidant mechanisms were examined: hydrogen atom transfer (HAT), single-electron transfer followed by proton ...

Efficient, rapid one-electron photooxidation of chemisorbed polyhydroxyl alcohols and carbohydrates by TiO2 nanoparticles in an aqueous solution [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2004
Time-resolved transient absorption spectroscopy has been used to study nanosecond and sub-microsecond electron dynamics in aqueous anatase nanoparticles in the presence of hole scavengers: chemisorbed polyols and carbohydrates. These polyhydroxylated compounds are rapidly oxidized by the holes; 50-60% of these holes are scavenged within the duration of

On the quantification of the dissolved hydroxyl radicals in the plasma-liquid system using the molecular probe method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Hydroxyl (OH) radical is the most important reactive species produced by the plasma-liquid interactions, and the OH in the liquid phase (dissolved OH radical, OHdis) takes effect in many plasma-based applications due to its high reactivity. Therefore, the quantification of the OHdis in the plasma-liquid system is of great importance, and a molecular ...

Biological Value of Centaurea damascena: Minireview [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of basic and applied Research in Biomedicine, 2019, 5(2): 99-106, 2019
The family Asteraceae include large number of Centaurea species which have been applied in folk medicine. One of the family Asteraceae members is the Centaurea damascena which authentically been tested for its antibacterial activity. The aim of the study was to discuss antibacterial activities of essential oil composition and methanolic extract of the ...

Free radical scavenging activity v1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Free radical scavenging assay was measured using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical test. To each aqueous extract 3 mL of 0.1 mM solution of DPPH in methanol was added (Fermont, Monterrey). Tubes were shaken vigorously and allowed to stand for 30 min at room temperature in the dark. Absorbance was measured at 517 nm.

Basis-independent system-environment coherence is necessary to detect magnetic field direction in an avian-inspired quantum magnetic sensor [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Advancing our understanding of non-trivial quantum effects in biomolecular complexes operating in physiological conditions requires the precise characterisation of the non-classicalities that may be present in such systems as well as asserting whether such features are required for robust function.
