Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

Stem Cell Differentiation Disperses Transcriptional Clusters via a Conserved Surface‐Condensate Trajectory

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation follows a conserved surface condensate trajectory: H3K27ac super enhancers nucleate large RNA polymerase II clusters that grow and unfold before transcriptional activity disperses them. This work reveals how biophysical forces at enhancer surfaces dynamically build and dismantle stem cell transcription hubs, reshaping cell ...

Linking frugivores to the dynamics of a fruit color polymorphism [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, 2005
Although fruit color polymorphisms are a widespread phenomenon, the role of frugivores in their maintenance is unknown. Selection would require that frugivores interact differentially with fruit color morphs to alter their relative fitnesses, but such a pattern has yet to be demonstrated.

Robust Amorphous MOF‐Based Aerogels Digital Biosensor for Sensitive Detection of Organophosphate Pesticides

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We report a robust aerogel digital biosensor by integrating an enzyme‐mediated amorphous MOF within an aerogel matrix for on‐site pesticide detection. The enzyme‐mediated assembly strategy enables in situ tailoring of MOF into a porous amorphous structure, achieving both high stability and activity.

Young children's perspectives of time: New directions for co‐constructing understandings of quality in ECEC

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Children's relationship with time in preschools is an under‐researched area. Young children rarely know how to measure time using a clock, but their experiences of time may contribute to understanding children's well‐being and debates about quality in preschools.

Tandem Duplication‐Driven Neofunctionalization of UDP‐Glycosyltransferases Shapes the Diversification of Triterpenoid Saponins in the Cucurbitaceae

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present a chromosome‐level genome assembly of Siraitia grosvenorii and, through comparative genomics, uncover a conserved UGT73 tandem array driving triterpenoid saponin diversification in Cucurbitaceae. Crystalized SgUGT73AM30 further reveals the regioselectivity mechanism underlying its catalytic activity.

Wearable‐Derived Diurnal Alignment Between Physical Activity and Device Temperature Predicts Future Disease and Mortality Risk

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Wearable‐derived diurnal alignment between physical activity and device temperature, decomposed into 24 h coupling strength (M24), phase deviation (D24), and 12 h harmonic magnitude (M12), is examined in approximately 90,000 UK Biobank participants.

Studies on the coloring of tomato fruits. IV

open access: yesEngei Gakkai zasshi, 1960
Studies on the measurement of pigment contents and some characters of tomato fruits covered with red, green, blue or black cellophane bags, or black, red, white or transparent vinyl bags have been carried out at Department of Agriculture, Kyoto University and Shinshu University in 1958. 1.
