Glycosylated notch and cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Glycosylation is one of the key components influencing several signaling pathways implicated in cell survival and growth. The Notch signaling pathway plays a pivotal role in numerous cell fate specifications during metazoan development.

Maternal Dietary Fiber Intake During Lactation and Human Milk Oligosaccharide Fucosylation: a PRIMA Birth Cohort Study

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, EarlyView.
Healthy breastfeeding women were recruited within the prospective birth cohort PRIMA. We collected a fresh human milk sample at 1 month postpartum to assess relative human milk oligosaccharide (HMO), HMO‐bound fucose levels, and secretor status. In univariate and multivariate linear regression analysis, we did not observe an association between ...

Blood group O expression in normal tissues and tumors

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
The H antigen (O blood group), the precursor to A and B blood groups, is expressed on human erythrocytes. Two novel monoclonal antibodies generated using sea lamprey immunization, Tn4‐31L and OmcFL3‐02, specifically detect the H antigen on glycan microarrays, glycoproteins, and human cells.

Trafficking and localization studies of recombinant α1,3-fucosyltransferase VI stably expressed in CHO cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Peripheral α1,3-fucosylation of glycans occurs by the action of either one of five different α1,3-fucosyltransferases (Fuc-Ts) cloned to date. Fuc-TVI is one of the α1,3-fucosyltransferases which is capable to synthesize selectin ligands.

Identification of the Plasticity-Relevant Fucose-α(1−2)-Galactose Proteome from the Mouse Olfactory Bulb [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Fucose-α(1−2)-galactose [Fucα(1−2)Gal] sugars have been implicated in the molecular mechanisms that underlie neuronal development, learning, and memory. However, an understanding of their precise roles has been hampered by a lack of information regarding

A fucosyltransferase inhibition assay using image-analysis and digital microfluidics.

open access: yesBiomicrofluidics, 2019
Sialyl-LewisX and LewisX are cell-surface glycans that influence cell-cell adhesion behaviors. These glycans are assembled by α(1,3)-fucosyltransferase enzymes.

Identification of β‐galactosidases along the secretory pathway of Nicotiana benthamiana that collectively hamper engineering of galactose‐extended glycans on recombinant glycoproteins

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary Glycosylation is an important aspect for many biopharmaceuticals, including vaccines against parasitic helminths. Plants, especially Nicotiana benthamiana, have proven to be excellent production hosts for biopharmaceuticals with tailor‐made glycosylation.

Human α1,3/4-Fucosyltransferases [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1998
An analysis of the acceptor substrate specificity of domain swap mutants of human alpha1,3/4-fucosyltransferases (FucTs) III and V has been carried out. The results demonstrate that changing Asp336 of FucT III to Ala (as in FucT V) produced a protein (III/V1) with a reduced activity with a variety of acceptors.

Overexpression of α (1,6) fucosyltransferase in the development of castration-resistant prostate cancer cells

open access: yesProstate Cancer and Prostatic Diseases, 2018
Glycosylation is recognized as one of the most common modifications on proteins. Recent studies have shown that aberrant expression of α (1,6) fucosyltransferase (FUT8), which catalyzes the transfer of fucose from GDP-fucose to core-GlcNAc of the N ...

Posttranslational modifications of heterologous proteins expressed in Nicotiana benthamiana

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary The success of Nicotiana benthamiana as a workhorse for heterologous protein production is closely linked to its accessibility and tolerance to genetic manipulation, allowing efficient engineering of posttranslational protein modifications (PTMs) that are critical for the function and stability of heterologous proteins.
