Protein O-Fucosyltransferase 1 Undergoes Interdomain Flexibility in Solution
Protein O-fucosyltransferase 1 (PoFUT1) is a GT-B fold enzyme that fucosylates proteins containing EGF-like repeats. GT-B glycosyltransferases have shown a remarkable grade of plasticity adopting closed and open conformations as a way of tuning their ...

BackgroundIndividuals with inactive alleles of the fucosyltransferase 2 gene (FUT2; termed the ‘secretor’ gene) are common in many populations. Some members of the genus Bifidobacterium, common infant gut commensals, are known to consume 2′-fucosylated ...

Abstract Preharvest sprouting (PHS), triggered primarily by wet or humid conditions at maturity and further influenced by temperature, causes premature grain germination in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench), reducing yield and grain quality. To elucidate the genetic architecture of seed dormancy and germination responses related to PHS tolerance ...

Glycosylation, specifically hypersialylation, is identified as a critical factor in human intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration—a major cause of low back pain. This study demonstrates that inhibiting sialylation reduces inflammation and oxidative stress in IVD tissues, suggesting new therapeutic possibilities.

Effects of microRNAs on fucosyltransferase 8 (FUT8) expression in hepatocarcinoma cells. [PDF]
Fucosyltransferase 8 (FUT8) catalyzes the transfer of α1,6-linked fucose to the first N-acetylglucosamine in N-linked glycans (core fucosylation). Increased core fucosylation has been reported during hepatocarcinogenesis, in both cell-associated and ...

Mapping protein–protein interactions by mass spectrometry
Abstract Protein–protein interactions (PPIs) are essential for numerous biological activities, including signal transduction, transcription control, and metabolism. They play a pivotal role in the organization and function of the proteome, and their perturbation is associated with various diseases, such as cancer, neurodegeneration, and infectious ...

Fucose is a common component of eukaryotic cell-surface glycoconjugates, generally added by Golgi-resident fucosyltransferases. Whereas fucosylated glycoconjugates are rare in kinetoplastids, the biosynthesis of the nucleotide sugar GDP-Fuc has been ...
