Spontaneous circadian rhythms in a cold-Adapted natural isolate of Aureobasidium pullulans [PDF]
Indexación: Scopus.Circadian systems enable organisms to synchronize their physiology to daily and seasonal environmental changes relying on endogenous pacemakers that oscillate with a period close to 24 h even in the absence of external timing cues. The

Pulmonary immune responses to Aspergillus fumigatus in an immunocompetent mouse model of repeated exposures [PDF]
Aspergillus fumigatus is a filamentous fungus that produces abundant pigmented conidia. Several fungal components have been identified as virulence factors, including melanin; however, the impact of these factors in a repeated exposure model resembling ...

Melanin is a natural pigment that is produced by filamentous fungi. In this study, the endophytic species, Spissiomyces endophytica (strain SDBR-CMU319), produced a brown-black pigment in the mycelia.

Mathematical modeling predicts enhanced growth of X-ray irradiated pigmented fungi. [PDF]
Ionizing radiation is known for its cytotoxic and mutagenic properties. However, recent evidence suggests that chronic sub-lethal irradiation stimulates the growth of melanin-pigmented (melanized) fungi, supporting the hypothesis that interactions ...

13C Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectra of Fungal Melanins [PDF]
Abstract The 13C resonance spectra of fungal melanins from Aspergillu sniger, Eurotium echinolatum , and Stachybotrys chartarum are reported. The spectra were taken in 5% W/W solution of the substances in 0.1 ɴ NaOD in D2O using the Fourier-transform-technique. The spectra and possible as signments of the bands are discussed.

Background: Dematiaceous fungi appear brown in tissue section due to melanin in their cell walls. When the brown color is not seen on routine H and E and culture is not available, differentiation of dematiaceous fungi from other fungi is difficult on ...

Solubilized melanin suppresses macrophage function
Melanin‐producing Cryptococcus and Aspergillus are highly invasive and can suppress or escape the immune system of the host. Since non‐melanin‐producing strains do not affect the immune system, melanin may play a role in immune system suppression ...
