Perspectives and applications of immobilised β-galactosidase in food industry - a review

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2008
β-Galactosidase is an important industrial enzyme in the hydrolysis of milk and whey lactose. The enzymatic hydrolysis of lactose allows to avoid health and environmental problems posed by this disaccharide.

Functional metagenomics reveals novel pathways of prebiotic breakdown by human gut bacteria. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The human intestine hosts a complex bacterial community that plays a major role in nutrition and in maintaining human health. A functional metagenomic approach was used to explore the prebiotic breakdown potential of human gut bacteria, including non ...

Exploring Immune Development in Infants With Moderate to Severe Atopic Dermatitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common chronic inflammatory skin disease in infancy with a complex pathology. In adults, the clinical severity of AD has been associated with increases in T helper cell type (Th) 2, Th22, and Th17 serum ...

Safety of 3′‐sialyllactose (3′‐SL) sodium salt produced with a derivative strain (Escherichia coli K‐12 MG1655 INB‐3SL_01) of E. coli K‐12 MG1655 (ATCC 700926) as a novel food pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2015/2283

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Following a request from the European Commission, the EFSA Panel on Nutrition, Novel Foods and Food Allergens (NDA) was asked to deliver an opinion on 3′‐sialyllactose (3′‐SL) sodium salt as a novel food (NF) pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2015/2283. The NF is mainly composed of the human‐identical milk oligosaccharide (HiMO) 3′‐SL (sodium salt),

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 600, Issue 4, Page 504-514, February 2026.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Comparative composition, diversity, and abundance of oligosaccharides in early lactation milk from commercial dairy and beef cows. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Prebiotics are nondigestible dietary ingredients, usually oligosaccharides (OS), that provide a health benefit to the host by directly modulating the gut microbiota.

Recovery from symptoms using an extensively hydrolyzed formula with synbiotic in infants with presumed cow's milk allergy

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Volume 82, Issue 2, Page 605-614, February 2026.
Abstract Objective Extensively hydrolyzed formulas (eHF) are the first‐line approach for cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA). This study evaluated the effects of eHF with synbiotic eHF (SeHF) on the general condition and symptoms of presumed CMPA infants during the initial 4‐week exclusion diet period.

Galactooligosaccharides formation during enzymatic hydrolysis of lactose: towards a prebiotic enriched milk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The formation of galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) in skim milk during the treatment with several commercial β-galactosidases (Bacillus circulans, Kluyveromyces lactis and Aspergillus oryzae) was analyzed in detail, at 4°C and 40°C.
