Quantitative analysis of sphingolipids for lipidomics using triple quadrupole and quadrupole linear ion trap mass spectrometers[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2009
Sphingolipids are a highly diverse category of bioactive compounds. This article describes methods that have been validated for the extraction, liquid chromatographic (LC) separation, identification and quantitation of sphingolipids by electrospray ...

NKT Cells Stimulated by Long Fatty Acyl Chain Sulfatides Significantly Reduces the Incidence of Type 1 Diabetes in Nonobese Diabetic Mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Sulfatide-reactive type II NKT cells have been shown to regulate autoimmunity and anti-tumor immunity. Although, two major isoforms of sulfatide, C16:0 and C24:0, are enriched in the pancreas, their relative role in autoimmune diabetes is not known. Here,

Prophylaxis of lipopolysaccharide-induced shock by α-galactosylceramide [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Leukocyte Biology, 2008
AbstractThe NKT cell ligand α-galactosylceramide and its synthetic homologue KRN7000 stimulate rapid and copious secretion of IFN-γ and TNF-α release, both of which are key mediators of LPS-induced shock. We showed that KRN7000, injected before or within 2 h after LPS challenge, was able to prevent endotoxic shock.

Structural Analysis of Fungal Cerebrosides

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2011
Of the ceramide monohexosides (CMHs), gluco- and galactosylceramides are the main neutral glycosphingolipids expressed in fungal cells. Their structural determination is greatly dependent on the use of mass spectrometric techniques, including fast atom ...

Synthesis of C-5" and C-6"-modified α-GalCer analogues as iNKT-cell agonists [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Alpha-Galactosyl Ceramide (α-GalCer) is a prototypical synthetic ligand of invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells. Upon presentation by the MHC class I-like molecule CD1d, this glycolipid stimulates iNKT cells to secrete a vast amount of both pro ...

Fucoxanthin-Containing Cream Prevents Epidermal Hyperplasia and UVB-Induced Skin Erythema in Mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Microalgae represent a source of bio-active compounds such as carotenoids with potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. We aimed to investigate the effects of fucoxanthin (FX) in both in vitro and in vivo skin models.

DMS as an orthogonal separation to LC/ESI/MS/MS for quantifying isomeric cerebrosides in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2019
Cerebrosides, including glucosylceramides (GlcCers) and galactosylceramides (GalCers), are important membrane components of animal cells with deficiencies resulting in devastating lysosomal storage disorders. Their quantification is essential for disease

Immunoregulatory role of Jα281 T cells in aged mice developing lupus-like nephritis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by the emergence of autoreactive T cells. Humans and mice with SLE have reduced numbers of CD1d-restricted invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells, suggesting a key role for these ...

Preclinical studies in Krabbe disease: A model for the investigation of novel combination therapies for lysosomal storage diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Krabbe disease (KD) is a lysosomal storage disease (LSD) caused by mutations in the galc gene. There are over 50 monogenetic LSDs, which largely impede the normal development of children and often lead to premature death.

High-grade ovarian serous carcinoma patients exhibit profound alterations in lipid metabolism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Ovarian cancer is a very severe type of disease with poor prognosis. Treatment of ovarian cancer is challenging because of the lack of tests for early detection and effective therapeutic targets.
