Cholesterol's interfacial interactions with galactosylceramides [PDF]
Recently, the influence of acyl structure on galactosylceramide's (GalCer) interfacial phase behavior was studied [Ali, S., Smaby, J. M., & Brown, R.E. (1993) Biochemistry 32, 11696-11703]. Here, we show that acyl structure is a key parameter controlling GalCer's ability to interact with cholesterol.

The marine sponge, Axinyssa djiferi, collected on mangrove tree roots in Senegal, was investigated for glycolipids. A mixture containing new glycosphingolipids, named axidjiferoside-A, -B and -C, accounted for 0.07% of sponge biomass (dry weight) and for

The alpha and omega of galactosylceramides in T cell immune function. [PDF]
Glycosphingolipids are a subgroup of glycolipids that contain an amino alcohol sphingoid base linked to sugars. They are found in the membranes of cells ranging from bacteria to vertebrates.

Characterization of phospholipid profiles of egg yolks: Newly classified plasmalogens, distribution of polyunsaturated fatty acids, and the effects of dietary enrichment [PDF]
Egg yolk phospholipids are commercially valuable products that are beneficial to human health. Previous research on phospholipids in egg yolk mainly focuses on phosphatidyl choline (PC), phosphatidyl ethanolamine (PE), and fatty acid compositions, and ...

Development of a Self-Adjuvanting Influenza Peptide-Glycolipid Conjugate Inducing CD8+ T-Cell Immunity. [PDF]
The glycolipid‐peptide antigen complexes for self‐adjuvanting conjugates were successfully synthesized, and, with the HLA‐transgenic mice, the antigen‐specific CD8+ T cell expansion was exhibited. The results provide useful insights for the design and synthesis of vaccine conjugates using glycolipid antigen as an adjuvant.

Quantification and Localisation of New Brain Lipid Synthesis Using Deuterium Oxide and High Resolution Mass Spectrometry. [PDF]
Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry and mass spectrometry imaging were used in combination with deuterium oxide administration to quantify and localise newly synthesised myelin lipids in the mouse brain. This methodology, used here to show sites of myelin repair, enables the measurement of dynamic lipid synthesis in living systems and ...
