Diversity of Intercellular Communication Modes: A Cancer Biology Perspective
From the moment a cell is on the path to malignant transformation, its interaction with other cells from the microenvironment becomes altered. The flow of molecular information is at the heart of the cellular and systemic fate in tumors, and various ...

Formation of antiwaves in gap-junction-coupled chains of neurons
Using network models consisting of gap junction coupled Wang-Buszaki neurons, we demonstrate that it is possible to obtain not only synchronous activity between neurons but also a variety of constant phase shifts between 0 and \pi.

β‐TrCP overexpression enhances cisplatin sensitivity by depleting BRCA1
Low levels of β‐TrCP (Panel A) allow the accumulation of BRCA1 and CtIP, which facilitate the repair of cisplatin‐induced DNA damage via homologous recombination (HR) and promote tumor cell survival. In contrast, high β‐TrCP expression (Panel B) leads to BRCA1 and CtIP degradation, impairing HR repair, resulting in persistent DNA damage and apoptosis ...

The results of Point Contact Andreev Reflection Spectroscopy on polycrystalline RuSr$_2$GdCu$_2$O$_8$ pellets are presented. The wide variety of the measured spectra are all explained in terms of a modified BTK model considering a \emph{d-wave ...

AZD9291 has shown promise in targeted cancer therapy but is limited by resistance. In this study, we employed metabolic labeling and LC–MS/MS to profile time‐resolved nascent protein perturbations, allowing dynamic tracking of drug‐responsive proteins. We demonstrated that increased NNMT expression is associated with drug resistance, highlighting NNMT ...

Gap Junction Expression Is Required for Normal Chemical Synapse Formation
Electrical and chemical synapses provide two distinct modes of direct communication between neurons, and the embryonic development of the two is typically not simultaneous.

This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Studies of intercellular Ca2+ signaling and gap-junction coupling in the developing cochlea of mouse models affected by congenital hearing loss [PDF]
Connexin 26 (Cx26) and connexin 30 (Cx30) form gap junction channels that allow the intercellular diffusion of the Ca2+ mobilizing second messenger IP3.

Chaos synchronization in gap-junction-coupled neurons
Depending on temperature the modified Hodgkin-Huxley (MHH) equations exhibit a variety of dynamical behavior including intrinsic chaotic firing. We analyze synchronization in a large ensemble of MHH neurons that are interconnected with gap junctions.
