Movements of chick gastrulation

2020
In birds as in all amniotes, the site of gastrulation is a midline structure, the primitive streak. This appears as cells in the one cell-thick epiblast undergo epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition to ingress and form definitive mesoderm and endoderm. Global movements involving tens of thousands of cells in the embryonic epiblast precede gastrulation ...

A mechanical atlas for Ascidian gastrulation

2022
ABSTRACT The intricate three-dimensional (3D) structures of multicellular organisms emerge through genetically encoded spatio-temporal patterns of mechanical stress. Cell atlases of gene expression during embryogenesis are now available for many organisms, but connecting these to the mechanical drivers of embryonic ...

Induction of gastrulation in the chick embryo

Developmental Genetics, 1987
AbstractInteraction between the epiblast and the primary hypoblast in chick blastula results in induction of the primitive streak (PS) in the epiblast. Alpha‐amanitin, a specific inhibitor of poly A‐containing RNA synthesis, inhibits formation of the definitive PS.

Atlas of gastrulation

Science, 2020
Developmental Biology We marvel at the progression of a single cell into a complex organism, and microscopy has long been used to visualize early developmental events. More recently, molecular networks and cellular lineages have been constructed by measuring cells' gene expression profile through single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq).

Homeobox genes in vertebrate gastrulation

Current Opinion in Genetics & Development, 1995
The formation and anteroposterior patterning of the three definitive germ layers, ectoderm, or epiblast, is the common theme of vertebrate gastrulation. What changes from system to system is the geometry of these events and the nature of the non-epiblast transient structures implicated.

The Gastrulation Question

Journal of Cell Science, 1905
ABSTRACT In consequence of the frequent discussions that took place in the course of the summer between Professor Hubrecht and myself concerning the gastrulation of the Vertebrates, he kindly sent me his paper on this subject for inspection before its publication. I would like to add a short explanation to his argumentation.

The Gastrulation of the Vertebrates1

Journal of Cell Science, 1905
ABSTRACT On p. 945 of the first volume of his ‘Handbuch der Entwickelungslehre ‘Oscar Hertwig refers (in a postscript to his theory of the germinal layers) to a theoretical view concerning the process of gastrulation in mammals (and also in vertebrates generally) which I have attempted to establish in my article on ‘Keimblattbildung und ...
