Zika Virus-Induction of the Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling 1/3 Contributes to the Modulation of Viral Replication

open access: yesPathogens, 2020
Zika virus (ZIKV) is a mosquito-borne flavivirus that has emerged and caused global outbreaks since 2007. Although ZIKV proteins have been shown to suppress early anti-viral innate immune responses, little is known about the exact mechanisms.

To translate, or not to translate: viral and host mRNA regulation by interferon-stimulated genes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Type I interferon (IFN) is one of the first lines of cellular defense against viral pathogens. As a result of IFN signaling, a wide array of IFN-stimulated gene (ISG) products is upregulated to target different stages of the viral life cycle.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The human cytomegalovirus UL76 gene regulates the level of expression of the UL77 gene. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) can be reactivated under immunosuppressive conditions causing several fatal pneumonitis, hepatitis, retinitis, and gastrointestinal diseases. HCMV also causes deafness and mental retardation in neonates when primary infection

Crosstalk between Hepatitis B Virus and the 3D Genome Structure

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Viruses that transcribe their DNA within the nucleus have to adapt to the existing cellular mechanisms that govern transcriptional regulation. Recent technological breakthroughs have highlighted the highly hierarchical organization of the cellular genome

Epstein-Barr virus transcription factor Zta acts through distal regulatory elements to directly control cellular gene expression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Lytic replication of the human gamma herpes virus Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is an essential prerequisite for the spread of the virus. Differential regulation of a limited number of cellular genes has been reported in B-cells during the viral lytic ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Real-time transcriptional profiling of cellular and viral gene expression during lytic cytomegalovirus infection.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2012
During viral infections cellular gene expression is subject to rapid alterations induced by both viral and antiviral mechanisms. In this study, we applied metabolic labeling of newly transcribed RNA with 4-thiouridine (4sU-tagging) to dissect the real ...

Meta-analysis of honey bee neurogenomic response links deformed wing virus type A to precocious behavioral maturation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Crop pollination by the western honey bee Apis mellifera is vital to agriculture but threatened by alarmingly high levels of colony mortality, especially in Europe and North America.
