Circulating microRNA signatures of cachexia and cancer in Canis familiaris as a comparative oncology model for human disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).

Genome-wide association analysis identifies multiple loci associated with kidney disease-related traits in Korean populations.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an important social health problem characterized by a decrease in the kidney glomerular filtration rate (GFR). In this study, we analyzed genome-wide association studies for kidney disease-related traits using data from a ...

Modeling epigenetic modifications in renal development and disease with organoids and genome editing

open access: yesDisease Models & Mechanisms, 2018
Understanding epigenetic mechanisms is crucial to our comprehension of gene regulation in development and disease. In the past decades, different studies have shown the role of epigenetic modifications and modifiers in renal disease, especially during ...

Intrapatient tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution in an autopsy study of metastatic salivary gland cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution of metastatic salivary gland cancer were evaluated in two patients with adenoid carcinoma and one patient with myoepithelial carcinoma. Radiology‐guided autopsy enabled multi‐region sampling (total samples n = 149), followed by whole‐genome sequencing and phylogenetic reconstruction (17 tumour samples, 4–7 per ...

Genetic Screening of Patients With Inherited Fanconi Syndrome

open access: yesKidney International Reports
Introduction: The clinical and genetic spectrum of inherited Fanconi renotubular syndrome (FRTS) remains incompletely characterized, and the role of recently recognized genes such as GATM has not been systematically assessed.

Extracellular vesicle lipidomics liquid biopsy reveals systemic and tumor microenvironment metabolic reprogramming in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Extracellular vesicle (EV) lipidomic profiling of plasma and ascites from patients with high‐grade serous ovarian cancer and of ovarian cancer cell lines reveals enrichment of triglycerides (TGs), diacylglycerols (DGs), phosphatidylcholine (PCs), sphingomyelins (SMs), reflecting tumor metabolic reprogramming.

People with genetic kidney diseases on kidney replacement therapy have different clinical outcomes compared to people with other kidney diseases

open access: yesScientific Reports
Despite increasing awareness of genetic kidney disease prevalence, there is limited population-level information about long term outcomes of people with genetic kidney disease receiving kidney replacement therapy.

TRPC Channels in Proteinuric Kidney Diseases

open access: yesCells, 2019
Over a decade ago, mutations in the gene encoding TRPC6 (transient receptor potential cation channel, subfamily C, member 6) were linked to development of familial forms of nephrosis. Since this discovery, TRPC6 has been implicated in the pathophysiology

Characterization of therapeutic antibodies targeting lymphatic and vascular resistance factor for the treatment of hypervascularized and highly metastatic cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LVRF (lymphatic and vascular resistance factor) is a VEGFA splice variant upregulated in response to anti‐angiogenic therapy that fosters tumor adaptation through enhanced vascularization, lymphangiogenesis, and metastatic dissemination. Targeting LVRF with fully human neutralizing antibodies disrupts these processes and limits resistant tumor growth ...
