The relation of morphology and affinity maturation in germinal centers [PDF]
The specific morphology of germinal centers is analyzed in the context of the optimization of the humoral immune response. The relevance of dark and light zones for the affinity maturation process is investigated in the framework of a theoretical model for the germinal center reaction.

Perturbing Microtubule Integrity Blocks AMP-Activated Protein Kinase-Induced Meiotic Resumption in Cultured Mouse Oocytes [PDF]
The oocyte meiotic spindle is comprised of microtubules (MT) that bind chromatin and regulate both metaphase plate formation and karyokinesis during meiotic maturation; however, little information is known about their role in meiosis reinitiation.

Urine is a rich source of biomarkers for cancer detection. Tumor‐derived material is released into the bloodstream and transported to the urine. Urine can easily be collected from individuals, allowing non‐invasive cancer detection. This review discusses the rationale behind urine‐based cancer detection and its potential for cancer diagnostics ...

PPARγ negatively regulates T cell activation to prevent follicular helper T cells and germinal center formation. [PDF]
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) is a transcription factor that regulates lipid and glucose metabolism. Although studies of PPARγ ligands have demonstrated its regulatory functions in inflammation and adaptive immunity, its ...

Influence of phytohormones on seed germination of Solanum linnaeanum [PDF]
The aim of this study was to determine the germination ability and seedling growth of the apple of Sodom by soaking in water, gibberellin (GA3), naphthylacetic acid (NAA), and salicylic acid (SA), separately. The findings showed that NAA at 50 mgL-1 produced superior germination (77.78%), germination speed (1.43 seeds/time interval), hypocotyl length ...

IL-2: Fine-tuning the Germinal Center Reaction [PDF]
T follicular cells help B cells to drive germinal center formation. In this issue of Immunity, Ballesteros-Tato et al. (2012) demonstrate that high amounts of interleukin-2 inhibit production of this critical T effector ...

SnapShot: The Germinal Center Reaction
To produce high-affinity antibodies, B cells must undergo iterative cycles of targeted mutagenesis and affinity-based selection. These cycles take place in a structure known as the germinal center, which forms in secondary lymphoid organs upon exposure to antigenic stimuli. Here, we summarize our current understanding of the germinal center reaction.

Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) promote cancer growth, invasion (metastasis), and drug resistance. Here, we identified functional and diverse circulating CAFs (cCAFs) in patients with metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa). cCAFs were found in higher numbers and were functional and diverse in mPCa patients versus healthy individuals, suggesting their ...

A possible role of chemotaxis in germinal center formation [PDF]
During the germinal center reaction a characteristic morphology is developed. In the framework of a recently developed space-time-model for the germinal center a mechanism for the formation of dark and light zones has been proposed. The mechanism is based on a diffusing differentiation signal which is secerned by follicular dendritic cells.
