Id3 Orchestrates Germinal Center B Cell Development [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Biology, 2016
Previous studies have demonstrated that E proteins induce activation-induced deaminase (AID) expression in activated B cells. Here, we examined the role of Id3 in germinal center (GC) cells. We found that Id3 expression is high in follicular B lineage cells but declines in GC cells.

Potential role of hypoxia in early stages of Hodgkin lymphoma pathogenesis

open access: yesHaematologica, 2015
A unique feature of the germinal center B cell-derived Hodgkin and Reed/Sternberg cells of classical Hodgkin lymphoma is their lost B cell phenotype and the aberrant expression of factors of other hematopoietic cell types, including ID2 and NOTCH1.

AID-targeting and hypermutation of non-immunoglobulin genes does not correlate with proximity to immunoglobulin genes in germinal center B cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Upon activation, B cells divide, form a germinal center, and express the activation induced deaminase (AID), an enzyme that triggers somatic hypermutation of the variable regions of immunoglobulin (Ig) loci. Recent evidence indicates that at least 25% of

B Cells Hit a Class Ceiling in the Germinal Center [PDF]

open access: yesImmunity, 2019
Class-switch recombination (CSR) provides diverse effector functions to B cells. In this issue of Immunity, Roco et al. (2019) refute long-standing dogma that germinal centers are the principal location for CSR; instead, CSR predominantly occurs early post immunization and declines during germinal center formation.

Asymmetric B Cell Division in the Germinal Center Reaction [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2012
Stochastic or Asymmetric Fate Determination? During an adaptive immune response, B lymphocytes rapidly divide and differentiate into effector cell populations, including antibody-secreting plasmablasts and memory B cells.

Shining a Light on Germinal Center B Cells [PDF]

open access: yesCell, 2010
The mechanisms of B cell selection in lymphoid tissues are poorly understood. In this issue, Victora et al. (2010) use imaging of photoactivatable green fluorescent protein to define the movements of B cells in germinal centers and provide evidence that antibody affinity maturation is driven by competition for T cell help.

B7h-expressing dendritic cells and plasma B cells mediate distinct outcomes of ICOS costimulation in T cell-dependent antibody responses

open access: yesBMC Immunology, 2012
Background The ICOS-B7h costimulatory receptor-ligand pair is required for germinal center formation, the production of isotype-switched antibodies, and antibody affinity maturation in response to T cell-dependent antigens.

c-Myb Regulates the T-Bet-Dependent Differentiation Program in B Cells to Coordinate Antibody Responses

open access: yesCell Reports, 2017
Summary: Humoral immune responses are tailored to the invading pathogen through regulation of key transcription factors and their networks. This is critical to establishing effective antibody-mediated responses, yet it is unknown how B cells integrate ...

Rap1 Is Essential for B-Cell Locomotion, Germinal Center Formation and Normal B-1a Cell Population

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2021
Integrin regulation by Rap1 is indispensable for lymphocyte recirculation. In mice having B-cell-specific Rap1a/b double knockouts (DKO), the number of B cells in lymph nodes decreased to approximately 4% of that of control mice, and B cells were present

B cell-intrinsic IRF-1 and conserved gammaherpesvirus protein kinase cooperate to promote murine gammaherpesvirus-driven germinal center response and splenic latent reservoir

open access: yesJournal of Virology
Gammaherpesviruses infect >90% of adults and are associated with B cell lymphomas. These viruses drive the expansion and differentiation of germinal center B cells to amplify latent viral reservoir and ensure life-long infection of memory B cells ...
