Treatment of severe diabetic hypoglycemia with glucagon: an underutilized therapeutic approach

open access: yes, 2011
Nitil KediaColney Medical Centre, London Colney, Herts, UKAbstract: Tight glycemic control is important in reducing and delaying vascular complications in type 1 and 2 diabetes patients; however, the benefits achieved through strict metabolic control are

An Implantable Optogenetics‐Engineered Hydrogel for Amelioration of Rheumatoid Arthritis through Light‐Controlled Metabolic Reprogramming of Synovial Macrophages

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An implantable hydrogel is designed to enable in situ and on‐demand secretion of GLP‐1 in synovium through blue light irradiation to activate GLP‐1R/HK2/VDAC1 pathway for upregulating tricarboxylic acid cycle and oxidative phosphorylation in macrophage, facilitating tissue repair and bone erosion recovery.

Optimized Ex Vivo Human Liver Slice Culture Maintains Extended Viability and Function for Hepatotoxicity Testing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An optimized ex vivo human liver slice culture system preserves tissue architecture, hepatocyte function, and immune‐stromal complexity for at least five days. By refining slice thickness, oxygenation, air‐liquid interface, and extracellular matrix support, the platform enables human‐relevant hepatotoxicity testing and mechanistic studies, offering a ...

SuFEx‐Enabled Reprogramming of Flavonoids for Selective α‐Glucosidase Covalent Inhibition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Selective inhibition of intestinal α‐glucosidase remains limited by poor enzyme specificity and off‐target metabolic effects. Here, SuFEx click chemistry is used to reprogram natural flavonoids into covalent inhibitors with enhanced α‐glucosidase selectivity and controlled reactivity. This strategy enables effective regulation of carbohydrate digestion

Multi‐Component Functionalized Bifidobacterium Longum Hydrogel for Multi‐Target Integrated Therapy of Colitis‐Associated Anxiety and Depression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A pH/MMP dual‐responsive Bifidobacterium longum (BL) hydrogel (INPs@BL@Gel) functionalized with baicalin, tyrosine, and inulin is constructed. It enables gastric protection, inflammation‐targeted release, and prolonged intestinal colonization. By remodeling gut microbiota, elevating beneficial neuroactive metabolites (homovanillic acid, short‐chain ...

The effects of dietary fibre type on satiety-related hormones and voluntary food intake in dogs

open access: yes, 2009
Depending on type and inclusion level, dietary fibre may increase and maintain satiety and postpone the onset of hunger. This 7-week study evaluated the effect of fibre fermentability on physiological satiety-related metabolites and voluntary food intake

Detection of Insulin in Insulin-Deficient Islets of Patients with Type 1 Diabetes

open access: yesLife
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is related to the autoimmune destruction of β-cells, leading to their almost complete absence in patients with longstanding T1D.

Metabolic regulation of fatty acid esterification and effects of conjugated linoleic acid on glucose homeostasis in pig hepatocytes

open access: yesAnimal, 2012
Conjugated linoleic acids (CLAs) are geometric and positional isomers of linoleic acid (LA) that promote growth, alter glucose metabolism and decrease body fat in growing animals, although the mechanisms are poorly understood.

Very Long‐Term Outcomes of Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding in a Japanese Cohort: A Single‐Center 15‐Year Follow‐Up Study

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Long‐term outcomes of laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) in Japan were retrospectively evaluated in 28 patients with up to 15 years of follow‐up. LAGB achieved sustained long‐term weight reduction in selected patients; however, recurrence of metabolic comorbidities increased during extended follow‐up.
