Iron‐Sulfur Cluster Targeting: A Novel Perspective for Treating Alcohol‐Related Lipid Metabolic Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 9, September 2026.
Alcohol metabolism induces structural instability of iron‐sulfur clusters through ROS‐mediated oxidative damage and direct covalent modification of acetaldehyde. The iron‐sulfur cluster deficiency drives metabolic reprogramming by inactivating aconitase, accumulating succinate, and impairing tRNA thiolation, thereby promoting hepatic steatosis ...

Nrf2–Keap1 Axis Modulation by Phytofabricated Metal Oxide Nanoparticles in Mesenchymal Stem Cell Lineage Bias

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 9, September 2026.
Phytofabricated metal oxide nanoparticles may activate the Nrf2–Keap1 axis through a dual‐stimulus mechanism, coupling nanoparticle‐derived ROS with phytochemical‐mediated Keap1 modification, steering mesenchymal stem cells toward osteogenic commitment — a mechanistic framework this review consolidates from current evidence.

The Thioltransferase (Glutaredoxin) 1 Gene of Fission Yeast Is Regulated by Atf1 and Pap1

open access: yesMolecules and Cells, 2003
We previously isolated a gene encoding thioltransferase (TTase1) from the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe. Using a TTase-lacZ fusion plasmid, carrying a 666 bp region upstream of the translation initiation point, we found that expression of TTase1 was enhanced by metal ions, diamide and NO-generating S-nitroso-N-acetylpenicillamine (SNAP).

Ergothioneine: Biosynthesis, Molecular Mechanisms, Physiological Function, and Role in Disease

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2026.
Ergothioneine is a natural thione antioxidant with significant biomedical potential. By reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and cellular injury, ergothioneine may support interventions for aging‐related disorders, neurodegeneration, metabolic diseases, and skin protection.

Utilizing redox-sensitive GFP fusions to detect in vivo redox changes in a genetically engineered prokaryote

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2019
Understanding the in vivo redox biology of cells is a complex albeit important biological problem. Studying redox processes within living cells without physical disruption or chemical modifications is essential in determining the native redox states of ...

Non-reciprocal regulation of the redox state of the glutathione-glutaredoxin and thioredoxin systems

open access: yes, 2003
Our studies in yeast show that there is an essential requirement for either an active thioredoxin or an active glutathione (GSH)-glutaredoxin system for cell viability.

The Protective Role of Glutaredoxin‐1 in Endothelial Barrier Regulation and Atherosclerosis

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2015
Vascular oxidative stress is widely invoked as an important pathogenic mechanism for atherosclerosis (AS). Protein S‐glutathionylation (P‐SSG), the prevalent post‐translational oxidative modification, is emerging as a critical redox signaling mechanism in cardiovascular diseases. However, its role in AS is not clear yet.

Engineering functional artificial hybrid proteins between poplar peroxiredoxin II and glutaredoxin or thioredoxin

open access: yes, 2006
International audienceThe existence of natural peroxiredoxin–glutaredoxin hybrid enzymes in several bacteria is in line with previous findings indicating that poplar peroxiredoxin II can use glutaredoxin as an electron donor.
