Variable domain N-linked glycosylation and negative surface charge are key features of monoclonal ACPA: implications for B-cell selection

open access: yes, 2018
Autoreactive B cells have a central role in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and recent findings have proposed that anti-citrullinated protein autoantibodies (ACPA) may be directly pathogenic.

Glyco‐Nanogels for Modulating Pseudomonas aeruginosa Biofilm

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Nanogels presenting α‐galactose and β‐fucose can significantly alter Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm dynamics through their interaction with lectins. Application timing is crucial: pre‐treatment reduces biofilm, while treatment after biofilm initiation increases biomass.

Autoantibodies to aberrantly glycosylated MUC1 in early stage breast cancer are associated with a better prognosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Introduction: Detection of serum biomarkers for early diagnosis of breast cancer remains an important goal. Changes in the structure of O-linked glycans occur in all breast cancers resulting in the expression of glycoproteins that are antigenically ...

Mass spectrometry imaging of N‐linked glycans: Fundamentals and recent advances

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
Abstract With implications in several medical conditions, N‐linked glycosylation is one of the most important posttranslation modifications present in all living organisms. Due to their nontemplate synthesis, glycan structures are extraordinarily complex and require multiple analytical techniques for complete structural elucidation.

Temporal Changes in Linezolid Minimum Inhibitory Concentration Values in Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus Strains

open access: yesMediterranean Journal of Infection, Microbes and Antimicrobials, 2019
Introduction: Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections are among the most common Gram-positive nosocomial infections.

Unveiling the metabolic fate of monosaccharides in cell membranes with glycomic and glycoproteomic analyses. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Cell membrane protein glycosylation is dependent on the metabolic state of the cell as well as exogenous nutrients available. Although the metabolism and interconversion of monosaccharides have been well-studied, their incorporation into cell surface ...

Quantifying Protein–Glycan Interactions Using Native Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Interactions between glycan‐binding proteins (GBPs) and carbohydrates (glycans) are essential to many biological processes relevant to human health and disease. For most GBPs, however, their glycan interactome—the repertoire of glycans recognized and their specificities—is poorly defined.

Glycopeptide resistance among coagulase- negative staphylococci that cause bacteremia: epidemiological and clinical findings from a case-control study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A 1-year prospective case-control study (ratio of control patients to case patients, 3:1) was performed to assess the incidence, risk factors, and genotypic patterns of bacteremia caused by glycopeptide-resistant coagulasenegative staphylococci (CoNS ...
