Comparative study of the biological activities of the aqueous extracts of two spontaneous plants harvested in the Algerian Sahara [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The present study investigates the insecticidal and herbicidal effects of leaf extracts from two plants were harvested in the Northern Algerian Sahara. These are Cleome arabica (Capparaceae) and Pergularia tomentosa (Asclepiadaceae). The efficacy of the extracts from the plants was evaluated by the reflux extraction method.

Reaction Mechanisms in Carbohydrate-Active Enzymes: Glycoside Hydrolases and Glycosyltransferases. Insights from ab Initio Quantum Mechanics/Molecular Mechanics Dynamic Simulations.

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2015
Carbohydrate-active enzymes such as glycoside hydrolases (GHs) and glycosyltransferases (GTs) are of growing importance as drug targets. The development of efficient competitive inhibitors and chaperones to treat diseases related to these enzymes ...

Targeting Regulation of Macrophage to Treat Metabolic Disease: Role of Phytochemicals

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
One‐third of the world's population is affected by metabolic syndrome. Complicated pathogenesis and limited drugs cause the growing prevalence of metabolic syndrome. Macrophage‐mediated metaflammation is closely associated with the development of metabolic syndrome. The role of phytochemicals targeting macrophages in the treatment of metabolic syndrome

Exploring glycoside hydrolases and accessory proteins from wood decay fungi to enhance sugarcane bagasse saccharification

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels, 2016
BackgroundGlycoside hydrolases (GHs) and accessory proteins are key components for efficient and cost-effective enzymatic hydrolysis of polysaccharides in modern, biochemically based biorefineries. Currently, commercialized GHs and accessory proteins are

Genomic and Metabolic Studies of the Impact of Probiotics on a Model Gut Symbiont and Host [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Probiotics are deliberately ingested preparations of live bacterial species that confer health benefits on the host. Many of these species are associated with the fermentation of dairy products.

Identification and structural characterization of a novel acetyl xylan esterase from Aspergillus oryzae

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
A novel acetyl xylan esterase was discovered from Aspergillus oryzae. The deacetylase activity toward wheat arabinoxylan increased synergistically with xylanase addition. The crystal structure exhibited hybrid features between two α/β‐hydrolase families, highlighting its structural uniqueness.

How homogeneous are the trehalose, maltose and sucrose water solutions ? An Insight from Molecular Dynamics simulations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2005
The structural properties resulting from the reciprocal influence between water and three well-known homologous disaccharides, namely trehalose, maltose and sucrose, in aqueous solutions have been investigated in the 4-66 wt % concentration range by means of molecular dynamics computer simulations. Hydration numbers clearly show that trehalose binds to

N‐acetylglucosamine sensing in the filamentous soil fungus Trichoderma reesei

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
N‐acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) is involved in diverse signaling pathways in dimorphic yeasts and bacteria, including virulence and cell death. Here, we investigated GlcNAc sensing in Trichoderma reesei. GlcNAc signaling influences around 2100 genes in this filamentous soil fungus.

Recombinant protein production facility for fungal biomass-degrading enzymes using the yeast Pichia pastoris

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
Filamentous fungi are the predominant source of lignocellulolytic enzymes used in industry for the transformation of plant biomass into high-value molecules and biofuels. The rapidity with which new fungal genomic and post-genomic data are being produced
