Atypical Serological Response Marked by a Lack of Detectable Anti-gp43 Antibodies in a Patient with Disseminated Paracoccidioidomycosis [PDF]
ABSTRACT Serological tests are frequently used to diagnosis paracoccidioidomycosis. A glycoprotein of 43 kDa is considered to be the main diagnostic antigen, being recognized by virtually all patients' sera. A case of atypical serological response, consisting of a lack of detectable anti-gp43 antibodies, in a patient with disseminated ...

Artificial Processive Catalytic Systems
A processive catalyst undergoes several rounds of catalysis before it is released from the substrate. The drawing shows possible ways (A–D) in which a synthetic catalyst can interact with the substrate to achieve processivity. Abstract Processive catalysts remain attached to a substrate and perform multiple rounds of catalysis.

New advances in the development of a vaccine against paracoccidiodomycosis.
Paracoccidioidomycosis is an endemic Latin American mycosis caused by Paracoccidioides brasiliensis and also by the recently described P. lutzii. The systemic mycosis is the 10th leading cause of death due to infectious diseases in Brazil. As published,

Paracoccidioidomycosis is a systemic granulomatous disease caused by the dimorphic fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. Its major antigen is a 43 kDa glycoprotein whose peptides embody different functions: P10 peptide, a T-cell epitope, induces protective response while P4 and P23 peptides inhibit both, macrophage functions and inflammatory reaction ...

Detection of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis gp43 Gene in Sputa by Loop‐Mediated Isothermal Amplification Method [PDF]
AbstractThe fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis is the pathogen of paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM), a systemic mycosis prevalent in Latin America. The loop‐mediated isothermal amplification method (LAMP) was used in this study to detect the presence of P. brasiliensis in sputa samples from patients with chronic PCM, suspected PCM, and a negative control.

Evidence for positive selection in putative virulence factors within the Paracoccidioides brasiliensis species complex. [PDF]
Paracoccidioides brasiliensis is a dimorphic fungus that is the causative agent of paracoccidioidomycosis, the most important prevalent systemic mycosis in Latin America. Recently, the existence of three genetically isolated groups in P. brasiliensis was

Binding of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis to laminin through surface glycoprotein gp43 leads to enhancement of fungal pathogenesis [PDF]
Extracellular matrix protein laminin binds specifically to yeast forms of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis and enhances adhesion of the fungus to the surface of epithelial Madin-Darby canine kidney cells in vitro. Immunoblotting of fungal extracts showed that the gp43 glycoprotein is responsible for adhesion.

Natural history of experimental arthritis induced by Paracoccidioides brasiliensis in wistar rats
INTRODUCTION: Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is the most prevalent systemic mycosis in Latin America. This study aimed to evaluate the natural history of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis-induced experimental arthritis of the knee joints in Wistar rats ...

Diagnosis of paracoccidioidomycosis by dot immunobinding assay for antibody detection using the purified and specific antigen gp43 [PDF]
The dot immunobinding assay, a rapid, visually read test, was adapted for serodiagnosis and follow-up of paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM). Purified gp43 antigen was tested before and after sodium metaperiodate treatment. To evaluate the assay, it was tested with sera from PCM, histoplasmosis, Jorge Lobo's disease, aspergillosis, candidiasis, and ...
